Students pay no tuition because Newgate is funded by your car donations. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1975 by our Founder, Ron Severson in partnership with the University of Minnesota. With the support of donated cars from our community, we been provide Twin Cities students tuition-free training in auto body and auto mechanic repairs. Not only do they receive technical
know-how, they build the kind of work ethic that puts them on the road to a successful career and financial stability in an industry they love. When you donate your vehicle to Newgate School, it can:
- become as a student's textbook for hands on training
- help fund Newgate School when the repaired vehicles are sold at auction
- provide life-changing reliable transportation for single, working Moms
We have 4 Newgate instructors (2 for each program), who are skilled auto technicians that come from many years of experience. Throughout the training process, each student is guided toward developing basic technical skills, responsible behavior, and the confidence needed to succeed in a career. All of which are crucial to the success of our students in the workplace. Newgate graduates become certified as auto technicians within 14-18 months. Our instructors work closely with our partners and community to support each student in finding a career opportunity that fits their goals. You may recognize Newgate graduates in the auto industry throughout the Twin Cities. A second program that we hold close to our hearts is our Wheels for Women program. Wheels for Women provides single moms with reliable transportation to get to work, appointments, activities, and provide quality time with their children without the concern of having car payments. Our goal is to donate at least 1 car each month to a single mom. Donated vehicles are inspected and refurbished through our training programs with reconditioned vehicles are then donated through Wheels for Women as our students’ way of giving back to the community. To date, we have awarded nearly two million dollars worth of vehicles to working mothers in and around the Twin Cities. Additionally, we value the numerous partnerships we have with local vendors, dealerships, businesses and more. It truly takes a community to support our mission, and we deeply appreciate all who consider Newgate School. More information can be found at www.newgateschool.org
