At a time when some states are threatening to strip immigrant students of their right to a K-12 education, Rep. Sencer-Mura and Dr. Alice Mann For MN State Senate led the charge to codify that right in Minnesota through the Education Protection Bill. Thanks as well to Sen. Latz for bringing this legislation to the Senate floor, which passed 34-33.

While this legislation didn't pass the House, the fight isn't over. Ensuring every child has safe access to a quality education is essential to Minnesota's future, and this will be a top priority in the months ahead and into 2027. Thank you to these leaders for their courage and commitment.

We are excited to announce that, in partnership with Northside Achievement Zone, our next For the Love of Reading Book Club meeting will welcome Mya as our featured author on May 23 from 11:30am-12:30pm at NAZ!

Mya is a young children’s book author and literacy advocate who has been published since the age of 4. Her mission is to make reading lit for kids—especially ensuring Black children see themselves reflected in stories early. She will read from her book Natural Hair Afro-Mations!

New federal rules for SNAP and Medicaid remove thousands of Minnesota students from counts used for school funding, but they still need access to food and learning supports. Minnesota needs a common-sense solution: a short-term freeze on counts while we work to bridge the funding gap. This stop-gap would keep tutors, counselors, and specialists in place. We cannot expect students to succeed if their support system is pulled out from under them.
