"Creating trauma-informed classrooms lets kids like Abu experience normalcy. Abu’s smile reminds me why this work matters: to make a difference for these incredible children who survive so much."

These were the words shared by our Refugee Education Specialist, Whitney Gerdes, when asked why her work matters. To learn more and hear Abu's story, visit us at https://iafr.org/blog/abu-s-smile.

At IAFR collaboration, host country economy, and local churches are among our core values. Are you making a special year end donation to a non profit? If so, you might want to take note of how to be sure your donation qualifies for your 2025 tax filing.

The USPS suggests these three options for proof of timely mailing:

1) Go to the counter: Request a hand-stamped postmark showing the actual mailing date.

2) Buy postage at the counter: The printed label includes the correct acceptance date.

3) Use Certified or Registered Mail: These services provide a receipt with the mailing date for proof.

This is important because the USPS has clarified that most postmarks are applied at processing facilities and do not necessarily represent either the place at which, or the date on which, the USPS first accepted possession of a piece of mail. This means the date stamped by a postmark applied at a processing facility may be later than the date a piece of mail was first accepted by the USPS (i.e. a local Post Office). The IRS generally recognizes the postmark date (for USPS mail) as the gift date.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to IAFR in 2025 to help people survive and recover from forced displacement!

There is still time to donate today!
