We stand with our siblings in calling on management to negotiate a fair contract in good faith. What is opera without the orchestra?

We are posting this to clarify: "Strike Authorization” is not a strike!

The Musicians of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra held a press conference this week on Tuesday October 6, 2026 in front of the Minnesota Opera Center to announce our 100%-unified vote to authorize a strike. This is not the same as going on strike - we are NOT currently on strike. This authorization is a demonstration of our solidarity as an orchestra and a 100% approval to strike only as a last resort.

Our goal is straightforward: We want to start this season with a new contract and a shared commitment to the future of Minnesota Opera. We are busy preparing for our first rehearsal of the 2026-2027 season and are excited to get back in the orchestra pit! We hope that management will work toward negotiating a fair contract for its orchestra.

Local 13 is holding an in-person OSHA 10 training October 28-29. This is your chance to strengthen your skills, protect your co-workers, and invest in your future in this industry.

OSHA 10 isn’t just a box to check. It’s knowledge that keeps hands out of pinch points, keeps lifts upright, keeps riggers confident, and keeps every one of us going home safe. The more members who hold this certification, the stronger and safer our local becomes.

If you haven’t completed OSHA 10 yet, make this the year. If you have, consider attending as a refresher — safety is a muscle we build together.

Location: Minneapolis Convention Center

Dates: Wednesday, October, 28 - Thursday, October, 29 (you must attend both days)

Course Time: 9am - 5pm

You will received two day credits for completing this training

Stagehands are having fun playing with bones today while they strike the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit that was at the Minnesota State Fair this year! Presented by the Science Museum of MN, this exhibit brought both life-size skeleton casts and real fossils.
