Join the Residential Architecture Committee on Friday, June 5 at 11:30 am for a CRAN Build the Build tour of an under-construction home in Little Canada designed by Kell Architects and built by Hampton Companies, with landscape architecture by Pebl Design. Register now: https://ow.ly/Cpcs50Z7n0O

“Red Bud” is a home designed for a client enthusiastic about sustainable design and building. The 1800 main level footprint is designed for aging-in-place with a lower level of 1,000 finished square feet for bonus living and guests. With Passive House concepts applied, the compact footprint is formed of SIP construction, high-efficiency mechanical systems including an ERV system and solar panels, triple-pane fiberglass windows and doors by Canadian manufacturer Duxton, and an envelope seal product by AeroBarrier.

A traditional cottage appearance for an energy-efficient design is achieved by employing products like recycled rubber roofing shingles and enduring stucco and stone for exterior cladding and character. A timber frame adorns the vaulted workhorse areas of the kitchen and garden room where organic food growth and preservation is a passion of this particular client. Extensive exterior food gardens, terraces and flower gardens are planned by design partner, Pebl Design, to support a life of growing, giving and wellbeing.

Red Bud is built in the development Villas Of Lake Gervais by general contractor and developer Dan Brown of Hampton Co.

Lunch will be provided, sponsored by AeroBarrier. They will be installing the product the day before and reviewing the results on a screen at the tour.

Registration is $25/person, or $5 for students and emerging professionals. Space is limited! Register now: https://ow.ly/Cpcs50Z7n0O

AIA Minnesota is seeking to contract with a project manager for 4-8 hours per week at a rate of $60/hour. Work would commence in mid- to late-July 2026 for a one-year period, potentially renewable for an additional 6-12 months. The focus of the work would be the organization’s Next Gen Initiative—an effort to strengthen the ecosystem of mentorship, community, and resources supporting Emerging Professionals in architecture.

Work direction would be provided by the AIA Minnesota Executive Vice President (and the Deputy Executive Director in their absence) and would involve ensuring various working groups, committees, and stakeholders involved in the Next Gen Initiative are supported in their efforts, and that the overall array of efforts are coordinated in their timing and aligned in purpose and process.

Recipient of a 2026 Minneapolis Preservation Award, Bimosedaa—the Ojibwe word for “let’s walk together”—is a historic warehouse renovation that created 48 studio apartments dedicated to permanent supportive housing, primarily for Indigenous individuals that have experienced homelessness.

This seven-story warehouse built in 1915 is a contributing building to the historic Minneapolis warehouse district. This edifice once housed motion picture film reels and furs through various periods of its history. The building had been sitting in a derelict state for many years prior to Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative’s commitment to breathe new life into it. The building boasts an impressive terra cotta façade on its 4th Street-facing elevation that wraps the corner, then transitions to facades laden with large industrial windows at the alley.

Due to the efforts of several dedicated organizations this district gem was able to be preserved and will be called home by many for years to come.

Project partners: Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative; LHB, Inc.; Mattson Macdonald Young; Steen Engineering; Watson-Forsberg; Landscape Research LLC
