Today, we honor the Indigenous peoples of the United States, including Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. It's important to acknowledge the historical mistreatment, violent uprooting, and exploitation these groups of people have endured.
Here in Minnesota, our state's name is derived from the Dakota phrase: “Mni Sóta Maḳoce,” meaning "Land Where the Waters Reflect the Clouds." Indigenous people have made immeasurable contributions to our state's history, culture, and economy.
