Let's talk about Anger Management! Tell us what you think in the comments!
Someone disrespects you in front of a group of people. Everybody heard it. Everybody is watching. You feel yourself getting HOT. How do you react? Yell? Fight? Threaten? Embarrass them back? Stomp out of the room?
But here’s the REAL question:
Are you responding to the disrespect… or to the audience watching?
Because if somebody can disrespect you and make you react in a way that costs you your job, freedom, relationship, money, or reputation….. even just a moment where you embarrass yourself by becoming volatile… who was actually in control?
Anger management isn’t about learning to be unaffected by disrespect.
It’s learning how to choose your response, so you stand up for yourself without creating a consequence that costs you more than simply disrespect…..
Try this: imagine a moment where you experienced disrespect. Think through how you responded, then in your imagination, rewrite your response so you don’t surrender control over your own behavior to someone else.
