Please join us in sharing immense gratitude and congratulations with our beloved and foundational staff MarLynn Schleeter on her retirement! MarLynn has supported THOUSANDS of young people in their employment experiences at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board over the past 25 years. Her grounded, caring, thoughtful, systems approach to youth work has impacted not only Teen Teamworks, but many other programs across the Twin Cities. Her contributions continue to make a powerful difference in our communities.

MarLynn is moving on to a position as full-time grandma with visits to cozy, historical libraries and bookstores, so be on the lookout for her in your neighborhood.

Deshaun Hill was laid to rest yesterday. A community came together to mourn his loss and celebrate his life. Teen Teamworks is just one of the many teams he was a vital member of. Deshaun was a leader and will be missed.

Below are opportunities for youth offered through Conservation Corp. Contact them directly if you are interested or have questions.
• Youth Outdoors (Spring & Fall):
The afterschool program connects Twin Cities high school students ages 15 - 18 – Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Dakota County, and Minneapolis – to the natural environment through hands-on conservation and neighborhood beautification projects. It empowers young people to become active, engaged citizens and leaders.

• Summer Youth Corps:
This is an 8-week session summer long residential program for youth. The work activities include managing natural resources in parks and public lands and participating in daily training and education. The 2020 program runs from June 15th –August 15th, with a week-long break. Deaf and hard-of-hearing youth are encouraged to apply.

• Increasing Diversity in Environmental Careers:
This is a program open to high school seniors who plan to enroll and pursue a STEM degree with an interest in natural resources at an accredited two- or four- year institution in MN this fall. This program provides a unique opportunity for underrepresented college students to develop a career path through a fellowship, mentorship, and internship. The applications for the 2020 cohort will open on March 2nd – we promise to email again when it goes live.

Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s Youth Advisory Council
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Youth Advisory Council is a select group of youth leaders to guide and influence recreation programs, youth employment and athletic decisions. Selected members serve as leaders by learning to use various tools for surveys, outreach strategies and group facilitation.
MPRB is selecting 15 youth/young adults ages 16 – 21 to participate in a two-year paid commitment. Youth will participate in monthly Youth Advisory Council meetings as well in small groups of 5 in sub-committees on sports, youth employment and recreation programs. Youth will work an average of 5 to 12 hours per month, including evenings and some weekends.
Applications are due by January 17, 2020. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor or coach is required, as well as a short essay on why you want to serve on the MPRB youth advisory council.

The Mississippi River Green Team is a two-year employment and conservation program for Minneapolis youth between the ages of 14 and 17.

Updates on MPRB Teen Teamworks alumni are amazing!

Former Green Teamer Mary Yang is currently working with City of Minneapolis Public Works as the transportation maintenance and repair intern. She spends her time visiting transportation infrastructure throughout the city, making notes and taking pictures of their status.

She enjoys exploring the city and connecting with other workers in the field. She said the Green Team helped to prepare her for the field work.

Mary will be entering her senior year at Augsburg College and is pursuing a degree in urban studies with minors in sociology and environmental studies.
