Who We Play For

Our mission is to reduce sudden cardiac death in teens and young adults thru ECG heart screenings.

We all have someone or something that motivates us - it's who we play for. WWPF is driven by the young lives lost to SCA, and our fight to help ensure other families, teams and communities will never know that pain. WWPF brings together heart screening groups from across the country who all have their own motivation, their own story. Whether it's Rafe Maccarone in Florida, Brandon Goyne, Sarah Fri

end and Cody Stephens in Texas or Burke Cobb in Louisiana - we've lost too many beautiful young people to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. All these foundations, created in memory of a lost loved one, have banded together under the WWPF umbrella to inspire and empower communities to provide every student with the opportunity to screen their heart.

Haley Meche came in for a heart screening with Who We Play For, and that moment set off a chain of care that changed everything.

She was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition affecting the heart muscle, and received an implantable defibrillator that helped protect her through multiple serious cardiac events.

Just a few weeks ago, Haley underwent a successful heart transplant and is doing well today.

We’re proud to have been part of the moment that helped lead to Haley’s care and the path she’s on today.

This summer, we’re working side by side with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) at free physical clinics hosted at two Pinellas County Schools . ❤️

Across 12 clinic dates, Who We Play For will be providing free ECG screenings alongside the free physicals offered by the DOH, helping students learn about their heart health before the season begins.

Together, we’re saving lives.

In recognition of CPR & AED Awareness Week, we’re revisiting an important reminder from a few months ago. ❤️

During AED checks at a High School screening event led by staff and one of our volunteers, a few issues stood out: one AED had a dead battery, and another was locked away in a room not accessible in an emergency. While multiple AEDs were on site, not all could be reached quickly when every second counts.

It’s a simple but critical reminder that AEDs only save lives if they’re ready and reachable.
