Today, October 13, marks what would have been Matthew’s 23rd birthday. For those who knew and loved Matthew, today is a reminder of the joy and laughter he brought into our lives, the people (and animals!) he loved so fiercely, and the bright future that was taken from him far too soon by sudden cardiac arrest.

Matthew’s birthday falls during Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, making today an especially bittersweet reminder that a cardiac emergency can happen to anyone, at any age, and often without warning.

Through Matthew's namesake foundation, we work every day to honor Matthew's life by helping others recognize and respond to sudden cardiac arrest. By providing hands-only CPR training, increasing access to AEDs, and empowering everyday people with the confidence to take action, we hope to give more families something we didn't have... more time with the people they love.

On Matthew's heavenly 23rd birthday, we invite you to honor his life and carry his legacy forward with a gift to the foundation. Your generosity helps us place AEDs in our communities, train people of all ages in lifesaving skills, and ensure more people are prepared to act when every second matters.

Today is one of those days that never gets easier. It’s the day our lives changed forever — the day we lost Jessica. ❤️

No matter how many years pass, we still miss her in all the little ways and all the big ways. We miss her smile, her laugh, her personality, and simply having her here with us. We wonder who she would be today, what she would be doing, and all the moments we should have been able to share with her.

Jessica was so much more than what happened to her. She was our daughter, our sister, our family, our friend. She was loved beyond words, and she still is.

One of the greatest comforts we have is knowing that Jessica’s life continues to have an impact through the Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation. Her name is spoken. Her story is shared. And because of her, other families have learned about sudden cardiac arrest and young people have received heart screenings that could potentially save their lives.

We would give anything to have Jessica back. But since we can’t, we will keep saying her name, sharing her story, and doing everything we can to make sure her beautiful life continues to make a difference.

Jessica, you are still such a big part of everything we do. We love you. We miss you. And we carry you with us every single day. ❤️🕊️

Your memory isn’t just something we look back on — it lives on in every life touched in your name.
