🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week!

This week, Cocoa Beach Fire Department firefighters will be visiting our local schools to teach students about fire safety and prevention!

Students will see a firefighter in full bunker gear and learn important safety practices, including never playing with matches, what to do when a smoke alarm sounds, and how to make a home fire escape plan with their families.

They’ll also get an up-close look at our fire trucks and the tools firefighters use to save lives and protect property.

We look forward to helping our youngest community members learn how to stay safe! 🚒

In July, we reached tentative agreement on the future of PCFR with D-Shift and the 24/72 schedule.

Today, we finalized the rest of the contract language on the issues that mattered most.

This agreement secures D-Shift with no loss of base annual income, beginning no later than October 2027, while also addressing wages, future compensation discussions, leave access, 40-hour employee scheduling adjustments, career development, and paramedic staffing.

This is a historic step forward for our members, our families, and the future of Polk County Professional Firefighters!

More information will be shared with the membership as we prepare for the ratification process.

It’s a beautiful day for some high rise training! Your Cocoa Beach Fire Department firefighters completed high rise training at The Resort on Cocoa Beach. THANK YOU to the Resort on Cocoa Beach Team for allowing us use their facility. Over the next few days, shifts and crews will rotate through the training, sharpening their skills in this discipline.

Did you know that Cocoa Beach has the most mid and high rise structures in Brevard County? These structures require a strategic planning and tactics for firefighters to overcome fire conditions.

Today marks an exciting milestone for the Levy County Department of Public Safety — we have officially transitioned to the 24/72 schedule!

After months of planning, preparation, hard work, and a whole lot of moving pieces behind the scenes, our crews are now operating on a schedule designed to provide our members with a better work-life balance while continuing to deliver the high-quality fire and EMS service our community depends on.

For our members, 24/72 means 24 hours on duty followed by 72 hours off — this equated to a 42-hour average work week as recommended by legislation, closer to the typical 40-hour week worked by most professions.

For our community, one thing hasn’t changed:
When you call, we’re there. 🚒🚑

This transition represents a significant investment in our personnel and our department’s future. We’re proud of the team who worked through the planning, logistics, staffing, payroll, scheduling, and countless other details required to make this happen.

Most importantly, we’re proud to continue serving the residents and visitors of Levy County every day, every shift, and every call.
24/72 is officially here.
