Uplift Drug-Free Coalitions NEW NAME: UPLIFT Drug-Free Coalitions

Brevard Prevention Coalition, Inc., previously Brevard Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, operated as an informal coalition of agencies and community members since 2007 in Brevard County, FL. Recently, the organization has formalized, reorganized, and intensified its efforts, becoming a corporation and 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in 2018. Our goal is to improve the quality of li

fe in Brevard County by reducing risk factors that lead to substance misuse and promoting factors that protect our community. We do this through local outreach, school-based activities, social marketing initiatives, campaigns, and engaging events that provide a unique and appealing platform. We work with community leaders, influencers, athletes, artists, businesses, and others to implement strategies that effect positive change. We challenge stigmas surrounding substance misuse as well as mental health and strive to disrupt the cycle of addiction and overdoses plaguing our Space Coast.

Meet our newest Community Outreach Specialist for Osceola County, Johanna Miranda!

Johanna believes that prevention is all about empowering individuals and communities with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to make healthy choices before challenges arise. She says prevention is about building strong relationships, fostering resilience, and creating opportunities that help youth and families thrive while reducing the risk of substance misuse and other harmful behaviors.

We are so excited to have Johanna on the team and can’t wait to see her take on Osceola!

Kicking off substance misuse prevention in Osceola County! 🏀💙

In June, we launched our first youth program in Osceola County in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club – Tupperware Branch. Former NBA player Dr. Jumaine Jones in connection with his organization Beyond the Hardwood used the game of basketball to engage youth in meaningful conversations about leadership, mental wellness, healthy decision-making, and building life skills.

By meeting youth where they are, we’re creating opportunities to inspire confidence, strengthen resilience, and encourage healthy, drug-free futures.

Yesterday, our Executive Director, Stanley Brizz, had the opportunity to represent UPLIFT Drug-Free Coalitions at the Central Regional Behavioral Health Interagency Collaboration hosted by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Stanley, was honored to present alongside Dr. Valerie Holmes, COO/VP of Family Partnership of Central Florida, and Fawn Moore, COO of Prevention Efforts at Heartland for Children, sharing how our organizations are working together to address youth va**ng through evidence-based prevention and community collaboration.

It was inspiring to hear from leaders across Central Florida as they discussed behavioral health, housing, and the importance of working together to build healthier, stronger communities.

Who are you? What do you like? What do you love?

Mr. Domingo turned these simple questions into a fun and creative arts activity that had our campers laughing, sharing, and expressing themselves. Every answer was different, and that’s what made it so special!

Thank you to our friends at UPLIFT Drug-Free Coalitions for connecting us to other community partners to bring our programs to kiddos throughout Brevard County.

💙 June is Men’s Health Month 💙

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet many men struggle in silence.

Let’s work together to break the stigma surrounding mental health by encouraging open conversations, recognizing signs that someone may be struggling, and reminding those around us that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
