The Member Monday of the week is Pat Saari-Sherbinow and Al Sherbinow! 👏

When did you start attending the Hiawatha Music Festival or other Hiawatha events?
“Our first Hiawatha was in 1989 the 11th annual festival at Tourist Park. We were encouraged to attend by Ellen and Dave Bett.”

Why did you become a Member?
“We took advantage of the Lifetime membership our first year. We were pleased to belong to a non-profit music organization brining great music to Marquette.”

What makes Hiawatha Music Co-Op so special to you?
“Exposure to a variety of music in our backyard. And the Hiawatha family that brings the Festival to life! Pat has been in the Merchandise tent since 1990 and is currently the Area Coordinator. The returning monitors and volunteers each year are special. Al is currently the Area Coordinator for the Musician’s Café Set Up, a role he’s had since 2011. He enjoys the contact with the musician’s in the Café.”

What is your favorite Hiawatha Memory?
“One of Pat’s favorite memories was in 2015 when the Extra Crispy Brass Band finished their set by leading the audience to the Merchandise tent. One of Al’s favorite memories has to be the Hiawatha folks who have passed.”

Pat and Al, thank you for all you do for the Hiawatha Music Co-Op. Your hard work and love goes such a long way! 🫶

Our Member Monday of the week is Jenna Hartom! 👏♥️

When did you start attending the Hiawatha Music Festival or other Hiawatha events?
My father attended the earliest gatherings in Deerton prior to the first festival and is a lifetime HMC member. My mother was pregnant with me in 1982 when she attended the festival, and as a family we went throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Following my mother’s death, my father and I continued to attend annually, and it became a place for reunion and “homecoming” for me throughout my life. The only festival I have missed in the past 25 years was the last one because of my son’s birth.

Why did you become a Member?
I became a member as a young adult after moving to NYC and starting my career as an art therapist. I thought more about how to support organizations that are meaningful to me through membership and volunteer work. I began to volunteer at the festival and found that I loved set-up because it involved physical activity and coordination across various areas. I also had the opportunity to serve on the board of directors where I learned more about why membership is vital to sustain the co-op for years to come.

What makes Hiawatha Music Co-Op so special to you?
The extraordinary people who give their time, expertise and resources throughout the year. I am inspired by the many original members who continue to be active and engaged at every level, and I feel privileged to have gotten to know and learn from them. It is incredible to see that each contribution is meaningful, and we are creating a legacy in real time.

What is your favorite Hiawatha Memory?
I have very early childhood memories at the festival: Playing in our pup tent near the park office, falling asleep during the last act at the mainstage, making instruments and following along in the children’s parade. More recently I loved watching my then 5-month-old listening to Hearth & Hymn in the children’s area. Their album, Lullaby Bangers, became her favorite for the next year. I’m looking forward to making more memories this year when we celebrate my son’s first birthday at our campsite!

Thank you for cherishing Hiawatha, Jenna!

Sons of the Never Wrong will be gracing the Main Stage this year at The Hiawatha Music Festival! 🎤

Sons of the Never Wrong is a turbo-charged Altfolk trio from Chicago that delivers witty, whimsical songs with their signature soaring vocal harmonies and gorgeous arrangements. In case you’re wondering, they’re 2 gals and a fella: Bruce Roper, Sue Demel and Deborah Lader. Their odd ball humor and spontaneous stories ignite their live shows and have earned them a cult-like international following for 35 years. With 12 albums, commissioned dance & musical pieces, sought after writing retreats, and years of touring, Sons has created their own genre. Combining influences of folk, jazz, pop and rock, their sound is wildly original, their energy Is contagious and their banter is hilarious.

You won’t want to miss this trio! 🎶 Sons of The Never Wrong

This week’s Member Monday is Nate Bett!

When did you start attending the Hiawatha Music Festival or other Hiawatha events?
“I believe I started out at Hiawatha 2 in 1978. But it’s hard to say. I’ve attended more than 40 festivals but I don’t have an exact number.”

Why did you become a Member?
“I became a member when I lived in NYC, it was harder to get to festivals and events, and we wanted to stay part of that community.”

What makes Hiawatha Music Co-Op so special to you?
“What makes Hiawatha so special to me will always be the people. We are united by a love of music, but it is the community that I keep coming back for.”

What is your favorite Hiawatha Memory (festival or other event)?
“There are just too many to list, but it would have to be in 2017 when I married my best friend Amy over in the squiggly trees by the water in camp section C.”

Thank you, Nate! You can spot him at festival with a camera as he is the Area Coordinator for Photography and captures such special moments at Hiawatha 📸🏕️
