Accessible voting rights
2026 Midterm Election Day: Know Your Voting Rights!
The 2026 Midterm Election will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Election Day.
Voters with disabilities have important rights and protections when voting in person. These include:
Accessible voter registration: The opportunity to register to vote in accordance with applicable requirements.
Accessible polling places: Polling locations should provide accessible parking, accessible entrances, and clear, easy circulation throughout the polling place so voters with disabilities can navigate the space safely and independently.
Nondiscrimination: Election policies and procedures must not discriminate against you because of your disability.
Accessible voting systems: Voting equipment must be accessible, available, and operational.
Service animals: The right to bring your service animal into the polling place.
Privacy and independence: The right to vote privately and independently, or to receive assistance if needed.
The right to assistance: You may choose someone to help you vote, such as a friend, family member, or poll worker. Restrictions apply to assistance from an employer or their agent, or an officer or agent of your union.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. Your voice matters, and accessibility should never be a barrier to exercising your right to vote.

Polling locations
The 2026 Midterm Election will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Election Day.
Polling locations should provide accessibility features that allow voters with disabilities to access the facility, navigate the voting area, and cast their ballots as independently as possible.
Polling locations should include the following:
Accessible parking: Designated accessible parking spaces located conveniently near an accessible entrance.
Accessible entrances: Doorways should provide a minimum clear width of 32 inches to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Clear signage: Visible, easy-to-read signs directing voters to the polling place and voting area.
Accessible voting machines: Accessible voting equipment that is available, operational, and usable by voters with disabilities.
Clear pathways and circulation: Pathways should be wide enough to allow voters using wheelchairs or other mobility devices to move independently throughout the voting area. Aim for 36-inch-wide accessible routes, with adequate maneuvering space where needed.
Accessible restrooms: Accessible bathrooms should be available, with appropriate space and features for voters with disabilities.

Under the “Your Election Day Voting Information” section, look for the blue International Symbol of Accessibility logo to see whether your voting location is accessible.
Voter Assist Terminals (Vat’s)
The 2026 Midterm Election will take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
All polling places in Michigan should provide a Voter Assist Terminal to help voters with disabilities vote privately and independently.
