🦺 Go Orange for the people behind the cones 🦺

This National Work Zone Awareness Week, we’re reminded that road workers are more than just the individuals you pass by on your commute—they’re parents, siblings, friends, and neighbors.

Every sign, cone, and flagger represents someone who deserves to make it home safely at the end of the day.

Slow down. Stay alert. Put your phone away.

Because in a work zone, it’s not just about traffic—it’s about people.

Struck-by injuries are a leading cause of death and, since 1992, the leading cause of nonfatal injuries in the construction industry. The national stand down encourages employers and workers to pause voluntarily during the workday for safety demonstrations, training in hazard recognition and fall prevention, and talks about hazards, protective methods, and the company’s safety policies, goals and expectations. Resources to conduct your own stand down can be found at CPWR.com/research/work-zone-safety.

Kansas LTAP is excited to partner with KDOT in launching a new webinar series focusing on the Drive to Zero initiative. This special edition of The Roundabout will serve as the launch for the new series. Join us on February 13, 2026, at 11 a.m. for our next Roundabout Webinar, where we invite Nicole Waldheim to discuss the Safe System Approach. The Safe System Approach (SSA) is widely recognized for its potential to reduce roadway fatalities and serious injuries, but U.S. transportation agencies have not fully institutionalized its principles within planning and programming. A recently developed toolkit features actionable strategies and real-world examples to help agencies build readiness and integrate SSA across all aspects of their work programs. This webinar will share information on a handful of the tools relevant in Kansas. This webinar is being presented by Kansas LTAP in partnership with the statewide Drive To Zero Coalition.
