๐ŸŒพ Summer Hay Fundraiser Update ๐ŸŒพ
We're making progress thanks to all of you!
Our Summer Hay Scorecard now has 25 of 96 spaces filled! ๐ŸŽ‰ Every sponsored bale brings us one step closer to having enough hay to feed our rescued cow herd through the summer.
We still have 71 bales to go. At $55 per round bale, every donationโ€”big or smallโ€”makes a real difference.
Our sanctuary transformation is helping us create more grazing space so we can rely less on hay in the future. But until those pastures are established, hay remains one of our biggest and most important expenses.
If you'd like to sponsor a bale, you can donate through PayPal, Venmo @ shy38inc , CashApp or check to 2100 wild horse Rd Lawrence KS 66044. Every time a bale is sponsored, we'll add another hay bale to our scorecard so everyone can watch our progress together.

Thank you for helping us help farmed animals in need, like Alice. ๐Ÿ’š

Shy 38 Inc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.

As the sun goes down, our nighttime neighbors begin to stir. ๐Ÿ’š
We've shared this property with copperheads for as long as we've lived here, and we've peacefully coexisted since.
They aren't aggressive snakes and would much rather avoid people than interact with us. Most bites happen when someone accidentally steps on one or tries to handle or kill them.
Copperheads play an important role in the ecosystem by helping control rodent populations and serving as part of a healthy, balanced food web. They are beautiful, fascinating native wildlife that deserve respectโ€”not fear.
If you encounter one, simply give them space and let them continue on their way.

Did you know??? The Eastern Copperhead does not lay eggs. The eggs are incubated and hatched inside the mother's body and she gives live birth to her offspring. ๐Ÿ

What a great day today!
We had an amazing turnout for today's public volunteer work day, perfect weather, and accomplished a lot together. Thanks to everyone's hard work, we successfully moved five chicken areas to their new locations as part of our Sanctuary Transformation Project.
Every work day gets us one step closer to creating a better home for the animals. Thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy, and muscle todayโ€”we couldn't do this without you! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ”

That means 81 bales still need sponsors before we have enough hay to get our rescued residents through the summer.
Every sponsored bale brings us one step closer to peace of mind. If you've been thinking about helping, now is a wonderful time. Sponsor a full bale for $55 or contribute any amount toward the next square on the chart.
Thank you for keeping our sanctuary fed, one hay bale at a time. ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ„

If you were a chicken and someone delivered a crate full of fresh produce, you'd probably start with the corn on the cob too. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ”
Thanks to today's pickup from Kanbe's Markets, the residents have plenty of fresh treats to enjoy. Watching them dig through the crates is half the fun.

๐ŸŽ‰It's $5 Friday!! ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŽ

Our Summer Hay Scorecard is officially underway!
We need to raise $5,280 to purchase 96 round bales of hay for June through September. This year's hay is costing $55 per bale, and thanks to your support, we've already sponsored our first 3 bales! ๐ŸŽ‰
That means there are 93 squares still waiting to be filled on our hay chart.
Every sponsored bale helps ensure our cows, horses, goats, and sheep have the food they need throughout the summer while we work on creating more grazing space through our Sanctuary Transformation project.
Thank you to everyone who has helped get us started. Let's keep those hay bales coming!

* Sanctuary Sustainers update *
Many people assume that a sanctuary's basic expenses are already covered, but the reality is very different. Our Sanctuary Sustainers program was created to provide dependable funding for essentials like feed, hay, water, straw, medications, and daily care. Unfortunately, we currently have too few recurring monthly donors, and every time a monthly donation is canceled, that dependable income shrinks even further.
Without a strong foundation of monthly support, we are forced to continually fundraise for necessities just to keep up with the animals' basic needs. Hay isn't an extra expense or a special projectโ€”it's food. The animals need it whether fundraising goals are met or not. Building a larger base of committed monthly supporters is one of the most important things we can do to create stability for the sanctuary and ensure the animals always have what they need, but is unfortunately something we have been unable to accomplish.

Hay season is here, and we need your help.๐Ÿ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŽ
Our hay supplier is baling this year's hay right now. Unfortunately, due to rising fuel and fertilizer costs, this year's hay will cost about $55 per round bale, up from $40 last year.
From June through September, our residents will need approximately 96 round bales of hay. Right now, we're down to just 5 bales on site.
Many of you know we're in the middle of our Sanctuary Transformation project. Since relocating isn't possible right now, we're working hard to create more grazing space, improve fencing, and make rotational grazing possible so our cows can rely more on pasture and less on hay in the future.

But those changes take time, and the animals still need to eat every day.
So we're launching our Sponsor a Bale campaign!
๐ŸŒพ $55 sponsors one bale of hay.
We've created a tracker with 96 spacesโ€”one for every bale we'll need this summer. Each time a bale is sponsored, we'll add a hay bale to the graphic and watch it fill up together.

Whether you sponsor a whole bale, part of a bale, or several bales, every donation helps keep hay in front of hungry mouths.

But around here, we can always count on the pigs to do a little gardening of their own. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿท

๐Ÿ„๐ŸŽ‰ National Dairy Month Giveaway for the Animals ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ„
June is recognized as National Dairy Month, a promotion that began in the 1930s as "National Milk Month" to encourage milk consumption and support the dairy industry.
At Shy 38, we are using this month a little differently. While the dairy industry celebrates milk, we celebrate cows.

Cows like Helen, one of our rescued dairy cows, remind us that these animals are intelligent, social individuals with friendships, preferences, and emotional lives of their own. They are so much more than what they can produce for us.
This year's Sanctuary Transformation Fundraiser is largely about them.

Many of you know we had hoped to expand by purchasing neighboring land. Unfortunately, we lost that opportunity, and relocating the sanctuary isn't possible right now. So instead, we're reimagining and rebuilding the space we already have.

Our primary goal is to create more usable pasture and grazing space for our cow herd through fencing improvements, rotational grazing areas, pasture restoration, and moving other resident groups into spaces that better fit their needs. By reorganizing the sanctuary, we can give the cows more room, improve pasture health, reduce hay dependence, and create a more sustainable future for everyone who calls Shy 38 home.

So far, thanks to all of you, we've raised over $17,000 toward our $30,000 goal, leaving less than $13,000 to go. The work has already begun, and we're determined to complete this transformation this year. Will you help us reach our goal?

Enter our National Dairy Month Giveaway!
Raffle tickets are $5 each, and you can purchase as many as you'd like.
One lucky winner will receive a cow-themed gift basket full of goodies including a cow mug, dairy free chocolate bars and a framed photo of your bestie, Helen๐Ÿ„ plus lots more!
Special thanks to our friend Melinda for donating the adorable Halloween costume for your pup! .

Every ticket purchased helps us move closer to our goal and helps create a better future for Helen and the rest of our cow herd.

Because if National Dairy Month is about cows, we think it's only fair to remember the cows themselves. While the dairy industry celebrates what cows produce, we're celebrating who cows are.
