Shared by Staff: "Friday night, all the bottom bunks were full and there were 2 guests, who had signed up for a bottom bunk. One of them was over 60, he was not going to be able to climb into a top bunk. After chapel, Terry announced the new bed assignments. 'I want you guys to know, this tears me up to say this, and I’m so sorry. But tonight, some of you signed up for bottom bunks, and I don’t have any to give.' The room was quiet; everyone knew Terry really was disappointed. He really didn’t have any bottoms bunks; they all had been filled. After chapel one of our other guests came to the front desk and said, 'I can go to a top bunk; so, someone else can have the bottom.' And then! 5 minutes later, another guest, came to Terry. 'I can give up the bottom bunk, so someone else can have a bottom bunk.' Terry told the guest thank you, and the guest said, 'The bed has been a blessing to me, now I want it to be a blessing to someone else.' Terry moved the two guests to top bunks, shared the good news, and everyone who wanted one, had a bed Friday night."

Mission Manna 🍽: Dinner the other night was Pork Chops. Of course, we offered our usual sides, including Sweet Corn. Busy night, as we served just under 260 meals (259 to be exact). Note from staff: "Dinner went well, Thanks for all the food! Guest when they saw pork chops said, 'Wow, real pork chops?'…I’m try to figure out what fake pork chops are…" Thank you, fellow rescuers, for the gifts that enable us to provide "real" meals every day to the hundreds of women, children, and men we serve.

Today is the one year anniversary of our move from Michigan Avenue. We had to completely pack up every guest and move their belongs and prep the facility that day, to be ready for our guests that night. Below is a quick message from our senior director of operations, as he shared with staff recently in memory of that day:

"On Wednesday the 26th, we will celebrate 1 year since the Single Adult Shelter opened. Why do we look back of things that have happened in the past? We look back to remember what God has done. It helps us when we look forward with confidence to see how God will provide for us... On that Tuesday, I heard one of the best messages ever given during a chapel service. While there was fear that the dining room 'wouldn't work' for a chapel service, God made it very clear that the preaching of The Word is not confined to a specific room. This was one of the most captivating chapel services I have ever witnessed.

Since this time, we have been able to offer services to 2,190 individual guests. I praise God for your hard work to help provide Food, Shelter, and the Hope of the Gospel to people that God has uniquely gifted you to serve."

Thank you, for being an important part of every meal we have served, every bed that's been readied for someone's rest, and every moment of Hope experienced by guests at this facility.

Today is a BIG day! It's the one year anniversary of our move from Michigan Avenue...AND National Dog Day. Before we celebrate our move, we want to pause to remember our mission mascot for so many years: Azan. His big heart showed so much love to our guests, and he is missed. Not just a good boy. He was the best boy. 🐾💙

Wow! Thank you to our local Dollar General Stores, the staff and shoppers! Recently, local Dollar General stores held drives to collect non-perishable food and hygiene items, and they were able to provide a good selection of items we need and use on a regular basis. We are always so grateful and humbled by the compassion of our community for those we serve. 💙

Shared by Staff: "Yesterday when I was leaving the single adult shelter, I met a guest in the parking lot. He greeted me with a big smile and then started rapping about the Mission. The gist of his rap was 'I’m so thankful for the City Rescue Mission that rescued me.' He was so creative and encouraging!"
