Join the South Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Corridor Improvement Authority on Thursday, October 15, for an afternoon of service, connection, and neighborhood pride along the S. MLK corridor.

We’ll gather at UA Local 333 at 12:30 PM for lunch catered by La Mulata Restaurant before heading out for the cleanup. Gloves, trash bags, and other cleanup supplies will be provided.

Our next Southwest Lansing Community Meeting is coming up, and we’d love to see you there!
 
Join us Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. at South Side Community Coalition to hear from guest speakers including LAFCU, the LEDC, and Woda Cooper, learn what’s happening around the neighborhood, and most importantly, share your thoughts, ideas, concerns, and what you want to see next in Southwest Lansing.
 
These meetings are about making sure residents, businesses, and community members have a voice in what happens next.

*OCTOBER DRINK SPECIAL*
Scooby Snacks Latte

The Scooby Snacks Latte is inspired by a piloncillo gingersnap cookie and kicks off our latest fundraiser. It is sweetened with a piloncillo syrup and flavored with ginger, vanilla, and cookie butter. Lastly, we serve it with our lovely transatlantic bitters and a dash of cinnamon.

This October, we are partnering with the Capital Area Humane Society () to raise money for pet supplies and adoption efforts. 10% of drink sales made with the Scooby Snacks Latte will be donated to CAHS to continue their good work! As usual, 100% of our Pay-What-You-Can drip coffee will also contribute to the fundraiser.

SWAG recently hosted MSU University Outreach and Engagement’s UCEF Program Fellows and Base Builder Labs for a walking tour of the Pleasant Grove & Holmes area.

The fellows had the opportunity to hear directly about some of the needs and experiences of residents and business owners while getting a firsthand look at the area itself. We walked the intersection, explored traffic patterns, experienced pedestrian routes from key areas and parking lots, and talked about what it’s like to navigate the corridor day to day.

There’s a lot you can learn from a map or a meeting, but there’s no substitute for actually being there, walking the area, and listening to the people who know it best.

We’re glad to be part of conversations and efforts focused on understanding the neighborhood and identifying ways to make it stronger for residents, businesses, and everyone who travels through it.

The S MLK Jr. Blvd. CIA will be meeting at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Hall (5405 S. MLK Blvd.) to talk about efforts to strengthen the corridor and support our small businesses.

There are a lot of people working hard to bring new energy, investment, and opportunities to the corridor. The more community support we have behind this work, the stronger it can be.

Community work takes a village! Shoutout to Councilmember Adam Hussain and his family, Angela, Ava, Audrey, and Amelia, for taking out the time and putting in the work to keep the Pleasant Grove Town Square looking great. We appreciate the care you pour into our neighborhood!

A time was had at SW Fest on Sunday! The rain stopped just in time for Southwest Lansing to come together and celebrate.

SW Fest is about spotlighting the people, places, and things that make this neighborhood special, and bringing experiences here that folks would normally have to leave the area for.

We hosted at La Mulata Restaurant on purpose, and so many of you discovered that gem for the first time. That’s exactly the impact we hope to keep creating.

Did you know that the S MLK Jr. Blvd. Corridor Improvement Authority works to revitalize and strengthen the South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard corridor through economic development, beautification, and infrastructure improvements?

They've worked with the Lansing Economic Development Corporation - Lansing LEDC to offer small business support, partnered with CATA - Capital Area Transportation Authority to add artwork from local artists to bus shelters, hosted community clean ups along the corridor, worked with the City of Lansing and MDOT to add pedestrian islands along the corridor to increase safety for those walking and biking, and more!

PLUS, they are the presenting sponsor for this year's SW Fest.

We're excited to continue partnering with the S. MLK CIA on building a stronger, more connected southwest Lansing, one project at a time!
