🏠 BIG NEWS — CAHP Is a 2026 Governor's Award Winner! 🏆
We are thrilled to announce that Capital Area Housing Partnership has been honored with a 2026 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation for our work on The Residences at Walter French in south Lansing!
Walter French School — built in 1925 and closed since 2004 — has been transformed into 76 affordable apartment units, while preserving the building's stunning original terrazzo floors, oversized windows, and iconic stairways. The building is also home to on-site childcare and commercial space, and reached full residential occupancy in September 2025.
This project is a perfect example of what CAHP is all about: expanding affordable housing in mid-Michigan while honoring the history and character of our neighborhoods.
We are so proud to share this recognition with our incredible partners — Quinn Evans, Rohde Construction, and Housing Links, LLC — and grateful to everyone who believed in this vision over more than a decade of work.
Thank you, Governor Whitmer and the State Historic Preservation Office, for this honor. 💚
