A former England footballer has spoken publicly about being s*xually assaulted in 2021, sharing his experience in his new autobiography.

Coming forward about s*xual assault can be difficult, especially when survivors may face stigma, disbelief, or pressure to stay silent. No survivor should have to carry that experience alone.

Sexual violence can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, or physical strength. The experiences of all athlete survivors deserves to be taken seriously and met with support and compassion.

At The Assist, we believe survivors. We believe in creating spaces where people can speak openly about what happened to them and be supported when they do.

Following a Michigan Supreme Court ruling, nearly half the registry, more than 20,000 people, was removed in a matter of days.

It takes a great deal to have someone charged with a s*xual offense, much less convicted. Before a name is ever added to the registry, survivors endure reporting, interviews, court systems, and trials. For many survivors and the public, the registry is both a record and a safety-planning tool.

This ruling covers pre-2011 cases, affecting survivors whose abuse happened years or decades ago. An offender's risk to the community doesn't disappear just because their name comes off a list.

Lawmakers have a chance to change this, and survivors and people with lived experience need a voice in that process.

Content warning: Sexual abuse, s*xualized hazing

16 former University of Michigan hockey players have filed a federal lawsuit alleging years of s*xualized hazing within the program.

The lawsuit alleges that players were subjected to humiliating and s*xually abusive initiation rituals between 1984 and 2001, and that coaches and university employees knew about the hazing or failed to stop it.

The University of Michigan has denied responsibility for the allegations.

Hazing is not tradition. Sexualized hazing is abuse.

After a college football game this month, an AI-generated video circulated online showing ESPN reporter Holly Rowe being slapped. The video was fake, but the harm was not.

Holly Rowe has spent more than two decades covering college sports, and she deserves to do her job with respect, both on the sideline and online. So does every woman working in sports media.

Violent content targeting women should never be shared, laughed at, or brushed off as a joke. Respect in sports has to extend beyond the field. We call on athletes, coaches, programs, and fans to challenge content that normalizes violence against women, whether it's real or AI-generated.
