Linda came in looking for clothes for her interview, but she left with so much more.

A few days before her job interview, Linda came to WCGL without professional clothing and feeling quite overwhelmed. We helped her find an interview outfit through our Career Boutique, provided hygiene products, and connected her with housing resources.

She came back a few days later and shared: “I got the job!”

Sometimes, one outfit, one conversation, and one connection to the right resource can be the first step toward a new chapter. 💜💚

Congratulations, Linda!

Today, August 26, is Women's Equality Day, marking 106 years since the 19th Amendment was certified and women won the right to vote.

That was one milestone in a much longer fight, and the fight for equality is still active today: in pay gaps, in access to safety and support, in the everyday barriers that keep women from reaching their full potential. At the Women's Center of Greater Lansing, we see that fight up close every day, and we see what's possible when women have the resources and support behind them.

This year, we're inviting our community to give in honor of what this day represents:

$19 - in honor of the 19th Amendment
$106 - one dollar for every year since it was certified
Or, a gift in honor of a woman who's shaped your life, any amount, given in her name.

Every gift helps us provide therapy, medication management, vocational support, hygiene products, clothing, and countless other resources to the women who need them each day.

Equality wasn't handed over. It was won, and it still has to be defended. Help us keep doing that work. Tell us in the comments what this day means to you, or tag/share the name of a woman who's shaped your own fight for equality.

Real equality means having the resources to build a life on your own terms. That's the piece of the fight we focus on every day at the Women's Center of Greater Lansing.

Through resume help, interview prep, and career counseling, we work alongside women in our community as they build toward their goals: a job at a living wage, with benefits. Financial independence changes everything. It's what lets someone leave a relationship that's unsafe or unhealthy, walk away from a job that puts them at risk, or simply plan a future on their own terms.

For years, we've served women across Greater Lansing, and we're always working to keep mental health support accessible. We now accept Medicaid and employer-offered insurance plans, making it easier than ever for women to get the care they need. We're also able to help women review their insurance options and apply for coverage, and with the generosity of donors, we can offer a limited number of free sessions as well. Visit https://lansingwomen.org/ to sign up.

We've also added a medication prescriber who can evaluate and manage medication needs, and a vocational rehabilitation specialist to help with job training, career planning, and workplace accommodations.

The fight for the 19th Amendment took decades. Tomorrow, on Women's Equality Day, we're asking our community to help carry it forward. Details tomorrow.

This week marks Women's Equality Day, observed every August 26 to commemorate the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Here at the Women's Center of Greater Lansing, we're spending the next few days reflecting on how far that fight has come, and how much of it is still being fought right here in our community.

Equality isn't just a date on the calendar. It's a paycheck that covers rent. It's a job interview where you're judged on your skills, not your gender. It's a support system when you're trying to leave a relationship that's unsafe or unhealthy, and start over.

Follow along this week as we talk about what equality looks like in practice, and how WCGL works toward it every single day. This Wednesday, we're inviting our community to help carry that fight forward. More on that soon.

💭 FRIDAY REFLECTION

Before you head into the weekend, let's take a moment.

✨ What is one win you’re celebrating this week?
🌿 What is one thing you’re choosing to let go of?

Your win doesn’t have to be big. Maybe you made it through a hard day, set a boundary, asked for help, rested, or simply kept going.

And what you’re letting go of? Maybe it’s guilt, perfectionism, worry, someone else’s expectations, or something that no longer deserves your energy.

If you're comfortable. please share in the comments. 💜

Let’s celebrate each other and leave a little lighter than we arrived.
