Michael Patrick Shiels of Michigan's Big Show asked, "Is [dual enrollment] a partisan issue?"

The answer is no.

The Governor's budget, House budget, and Senate budget all include dedicated funding for dual enrollment, ensuring K-12 school districts are reimbursed for tuition and fees paid on behalf of students earning college credit while still in high school.

There is broad bipartisan agreement that dual enrollment expands opportunity, accelerates degree completion, and strengthens Michigan's talent pipeline.

As lawmakers work toward final FY27 budget agreements, let's get it done.

Michigan students, families, schools, and colleges deserve an on-time state budget.

Today, MCCA and the Michigan College Access Network issued a joint statement urging state leaders to complete the FY 2027 budget by the July 1 statutory deadline and remain focused on priorities that expand opportunity and strengthen Michigan's talent pipeline.

Our shared priorities include:
✔ Modernizing dual enrollment funding
✔ Expanding Michigan Reconnect to age 21
✔ Sustaining investments in college access and student success
✔ Supporting Michigan's community colleges

As budget negotiations continue, we encourage policymakers to keep the focus on students, workforce development, and educational opportunity.

Registered apprenticeship is one of Michigan's most effective workforce development strategies, combining paid employment with hands-on learning and industry-recognized credentials.

Today, MCCA was proud to join the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), Schoolcraft College, and the Bricklayers Union for the first stop in the Michigan College Credit for Apprenticeships Program (MI-CCAP) signing series.

MI-CCAP helps apprentices turn the skills and knowledge gained through registered apprenticeship training into college credit, creating clearer pathways to certificates, degrees, and career advancement.

As MCCA President Brandy Johnson shared: "Michigan’s community colleges know that talent is built through hands-on learning, real-world experience and strong partnerships. The Michigan College Credit for Apprenticeships Program recognizes the value of registered apprenticeship training while helping more Michiganders advance their careers and meet the workforce needs of employers across the state."

Congratulations Montcalm Community College on this remarkable milestone for students and the greater MCC community! Carbonelli Villas will undoubtedly have a positive impact for years to come.

A June 9 ribbon cutting for Carbonelli Villas, the new student housing building on Montcalm Community College’s Sidney campus, marked a milestone for the institution.

Members of the college’s Board of Trustees, Foundation Board, college leadership, and the Carbonelli family, as well as representatives of project partners Construction Simplified, Mathison/Mathison and Progressive Companies joined employees and community members in gathering for the occasion.

Before a representative group officially cut the ribbon, MCC President Dr. Bradley J. Barrick and Board Chair Kurt Peterson were joined by project partners to address the attendees.

“Today is a truly historic occasion and marks a defining moment in the life of Montcalm Community College,” Dr. Barrick said. “Student housing transforms a campus from a place students attend into a community where students belong.”

This week, the MCCA Board of Directors gathered at Muskegon Community College for a few days of discussion, learning, and connection.

We were grateful to welcome Representative Will Snyder and Curt Vanderwall - State Representative, who joined us for a candid conversation about governing, policymaking, and the issues shaping Michigan's future. Thank you both for sharing your time and perspectives with community college leaders from across the state.

A special thank you to Muskegon Community College for hosting us during its Centennial Year. It was exciting to experience the energy on campus and celebrate 100 years of impact on students, families, and the community.
