Wade Trim was honored with the Board Design Award at the 2026 ACEC/Michigan Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala for their board designed to tell the story of Chapaton RTB Canal Rehabilitation.

All project submittals must include a Project Board. This award is given to the firm whose board design tells the best story of the project using quality pictures and text.

At the 2026 Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala, we were proud to award $32,000 in scholarships to support the next generation of engineering and surveying professionals.
This year, nine outstanding students were recognized for their academic achievements, leadership, and commitment to the profession:

• Nicole Spengler, Michigan Technological University — $5,000

• Benjamin Swenson, Michigan Technological University — $3,500

• Blake Ferguson, Ferris State University — $3,500

• Ethan Downs, Michigan Technological University — $3,000

• Addison Seeman, Michigan Technological University — $2,500

• Lauren Willerick, Michigan Technological University — $4,500
(including $2,000 facilitated by PCIA (Professional Concepts Insurance Agency) in recognition of her exceptional community service)

• Myles de Jongh, Michigan State University — $2,500

• Bryce Howard, Alabama A&M University — $2,500

• Mya Davis, Delta College — $5,000
(facilitated by Wade TrimWade Trim through the ACEC Research Institute)

ACEC/Michigan’s Scholarship Program was established to promote the engineering and surveying professions while providing meaningful financial support to students pursuing these careers. Each year, scholarships are awarded to deserving students enrolled in ABET-accredited programs who have completed at least one year of study.

Recipients are selected based on a comprehensive review of their academic performance, work experience, extracurricular involvement, community service, references, and a written essay.

🏆 Felix A. Anderson Image Award 🏆

Laura Mester, recently retired Michigan Department of Transportation Chief Administrative Officer, received the 2026 Felix A. Anderson Image Award to honor her contributions to enhancing the image of the profession. The award was presented at the ACEC/Michigan Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala.

The nominees for this award shall be perceived as leaders and demonstrate how their actions have positively impacted the public's understanding and appreciation of the engineering profession, their commitment to improving the awareness of engineer's contributions to "quality of life," encouraged programs that promote pride in engineering, and demonstrate how they have encouraged engineers to pursue leadership positions in the community.

Mark K. Kramer, PE, President & Chief Executive Officer of SME USA, received the 2026 Vernon B. Spalding Leadership Award for his many contributions toward enhancing the image of the engineering profession. The award was presented at the ACEC/Michigan Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala.

The Vernon B. Spalding Leadership Award is presented to outstanding individuals who have contributed significantly to the profession through their leadership roles in ACEC, professional societies, academic, and community service organizations.

The nominees are perceived by the profession and in their communities as leaders and demonstrate, through their civic involvement, how the quality of life in their community has been enhanced.
