On Tuesday the Michigan Strategic Fund approved a handout of 50 million taxpayer dollars to the hotly opposed, Canadian-owned Copperwood Mine, in a last-minute meeting designed to steamroll over public input and using a loophole which will not require additional votes from legislature.

The MSF will be using significant funding from Tribal casinos to fund a mining proposal which is near universally opposed by members of Tribal Nations.

This was a coup d’etat over democracy and common decency.

If you’re pi**ed off, it’s best to be in good company. Join us this weekend in a protest encampment next to the mine site, on the North Country Trail on Ottawa National Forest, located 20 minutes north of Wakefield on County Road 519, just a few minutes south of the Presque Isle Scenic area in Porcupine Mountains State Park.

We’re a friendly and welcoming group of folks. Please bring everything you need to be self-sufficient. Pack in, pack out: take all trash and recycling with you when you leave.

Voices from tribes and environmental groups held a press conference today on the heels of Friday's Line 5 decision from the Michigan Supreme Court.

The decision sets the stage for the Michigan Public Service Commission to go back and conduct a rigorous review of Line 5.
