For our senior neighbors at Willow Place and Riverbirch Village, home is where independence and community meet.

Older adults tell us the same thing in different ways: independence and support work best together. One resident put it plainly:

"It just lets me age gracefully."
— Nancy, HomeSource resident

That balance, staying independent while knowing help is close by, is what aging in place is really about.

Today we opened four new homes in East Knoxville.

At Holston Village, we celebrated the grand opening of a purpose-built fourplex, four one-bedroom apartments designed for older adults and neighbors living with disabilities. Four households can now call this corner of East Knoxville home, living independently and close to the people and places they already know.

"Every neighbor deserves a home that fits their life. These four homes mean four households can stay rooted in East Knoxville, living independently and with dignity, in a place built with them in mind."
~ Jackie Mayo, CEO, HomeSource east tennessee

We were honored to welcome Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon, Tennessee Senator Becky Massey, Nicole Intagliata with Fahe and Katie Moore of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency to the ribbon cutting, along with community advocates and neighbors from across East Knoxville.

Homes like these come together because partners at every level show up. Special thanks to the City of Knoxville - Government for its HOME funds allocation and to the State of Tennessee for its ARPA funds, both essential to making this development possible.

Thank you to every partner who was part of welcoming these homes to the neighborhood.

"To me, this is more of a neighborhood than a complex."

That's what one HomeSource senior resident says in our new video, and it's exactly the story we set out to tell. What happens when older neighbors have a safe place to live, a community around them, and the freedom to age with dignity on their own terms.

Watch, and if it speaks to you, please share.

If your Sunday school class, small group, or civic organization has ever thought about reaching out to older neighbors in East Tennessee, this video is also an invitation. There's real room for partners here.

Willow Place is growing in Karns. Phase III is now open with 30 income-appropriate senior apartments, and Phase IV will add 30 more.

We are planning a shared community center to serve residents across both phases: a place for meals, wellness activities, and everyday neighborly connection.

Share this post to help more East Tennessee neighbors know these homes are here!

Now streaming on Prime Video, RISING shares the true story of the catastrophic flood event that devastated Eastern Kentucky four years ago. Lives were lost, homes were greatly damaged, and many were left without the resources needed to move forward. The documentary shows how the Fahe network, local government, donors, and community-based organizations showed up for the region by doing the on-the-ground work that made rebuilding and recovering possible.

Hear from Seth Long of H.O.M.E.S. Inc., Scott McReynolds of the Housing Development Alliance (HDA), and Fahe’s own Pam Johnson on what came after the 2022 floods, from providing safe shelter to the many affected to building higher-ground developments that serve as protection for future flood events. This is the story behind RISING, sharing the real accounts of the people willing to do whatever they can for the communities they serve and why Housing Can’t Wait another minute.
