Last night, we had the joy of celebrating and honoring Doug McCarty at the Knox Heritage Preservation Awards.

Doug’s impact on our community runs deep. Following a legacy started by his father, Bruce McCarty, Doug has spent more than 40 years serving ETCDC as a Board Member, design volunteer, advocate, and trusted voice in community-centered design.

Through his work, leadership, and continued commitment to preservation, Doug has consistently reminded us that good design starts with listening. Whether through ETCDC or the work of MHM, he has championed the importance of community voice and user voice in shaping places that truly serve people.

We feel incredibly lucky to have Doug as part of the ETCDC family — someone who has continually used his experience, influence, and passion to uplift our community and advocate for thoughtful, people-centered design.

Congratulations, Doug, and thank you for all you have done — and continue to do — for East Tennessee.
