904WARD 904WARD creates racial healing and equity through deep conversations and learning, trusting relationships, and collective action. ✨

904WARD began in 2015 with a small group of professionals who came together to talk openly, challenge each other, support each other, and take action together to build a more inclusive Jacksonville. We are an racial equity and healing organization made up of people from Jacksonville’s private, public, and nonprofits sectors committed to creating a community of inclusion for all of Jacksonville’s residents.

As we close out Banned Book Week, we want to take a moment to celebrate 904WARD’s Little Free Diverse Libraries!

Since 2022, 904WARD has partnered with community members to respond to the practice of book banning. Since our inaugural library was placed Yellow House in honor of Bryant Rollins we have installed a total of 65 Little Free DIVERSE Libraries across the state. To date we have placed more than 13,500 books in those libraries alongside our partners and volunteers!

If we want readers, they need content. If we want others to build empathy and understanding, books are a doorway. If you want an educated electorate, books should not be banned.

Fight back against book bans by donating to 904WARD today so we can continue purchasing books and restocking these libraries with diverse content for all ages.

During Banned Books Week, 904WARD stands for the freedom to read, learn, and understand one another. When books and diverse stories are removed, children lose opportunities to explore history, develop empathy, and think critically. Books open minds, strengthen communities, and help build a more just Jacksonville. Let them read.

904WARD stands firmly against the racially offensive behavior reported at the Fernandina Beach vs. Andrew Jackson volleyball match.

No student should ever face racial intimidation, on the court or anywhere in our community. This incident is not a joke. It is racial harassment, and it deserves to be treated as such.

We are calling on Nassau County School District to complete a transparent investigation, hold those responsible accountable, and share concrete steps the district and Fernandina Beach High School will take to prevent this from happening again. We also ask that Duval County Public Schools and Andrew Jackson High School be kept informed throughout, and that the students and families affected receive real support, not just an apology.

904WARD remains committed to honest dialogue, racial equity, and building a Northeast Florida where every young person is valued and protected.
