Hope Haven Jacksonville

Hope Haven Jacksonville A unique provider of advocacy, educational, mental health and neuropsychological evaluation services. It serves more than 5,000 families each year.

Throughout its history, Hope Haven has actively responded to the changing needs of children and families, adapting services and programs to meet the medical and social challenges faced by each generation. Hope Haven was founded in 1926, near the height of the tuberculosis epidemic in America, with a mission to serve malnourished and tuberculosis-infected children. Though it opened with just three

patients, it quickly outgrew its original facility on the Trout River and, in 1940, moved to a large, white brick hospital on Atlantic Boulevard that quickly became a community landmark. As modern medicine brought tuberculosis under control, a new public health threat emerged – poliomyelitis, one of the most feared diseases of the mid-1900s. At its new hospital, Hope Haven shifted its attention to treating children afflicted with polio. By the 1960s, when the Salk vaccine began to stem the tide of polio victims, Hope Haven had treated more than 20,000 patients. As community needs continued to change, Hope Haven continued to adjust, providing general medical and surgical care for children. In 1980, with major changes occurring in the health care system, Hope Haven limited itself to outpatient services. In 1990, it sold the landmark hospital on Atlantic Boulevard and moved to a purpose-built facility on Beach Boulevard, where its staff treats children and families with a range of educational, developmental and mental health concerns. Today, Hope Haven is recognized as one of the community’s leading nonprofit providers of specialized services for children and their families, and has earned the highest respect from its peers.

💙 Evaluation Monday | Week 1 of 5

Is This Normal?

It's one of the first questions many parents ask when they notice their child developing differently than other children their age.

Maybe your child isn't talking yet.

Maybe they avoid eye contact.

Maybe they're having frequent meltdowns or struggling with changes in routine.

The truth is that every child develops at their own pace.

But if something feels different, it's okay to ask questions.

Seeking answers isn't about finding something wrong.

It's about understanding your child and ensuring they have the support they need to thrive.

You know your child best. Trust your instincts.

💙 Getting Tools While You're Waiting

Waiting for services can be one of the most challenging parts of a family's journey.

It is easy to feel like progress is on hold.

The truth is that meaningful learning and growth can happen in everyday moments.

Reading together.

Playing together.

Building routines.

Encouraging communication.

Celebrating small successes.

These simple interactions help strengthen connections, build confidence, and support development long before services begin.

You are not just waiting.

You are building a bridge.

💙 End of School Year Check In

As the school year comes to a close, many children experience a mix of emotions.

Some are excited for summer.

Some are nervous about changes in routine.

Some are reflecting on challenges they faced and goals they achieved.

As parents and caregivers, one of the most valuable things we can do is create space for those conversations.

Try asking:

✔ What was your favorite memory from this school year?

✔ What accomplishment are you most proud of?

✔ What was the hardest part of the year?

✔ What are you looking forward to this summer?

✔ Is there anything you're worried about?

Transitions often bring big feelings, even when they are positive ones.

Before the school year ends, take a few moments to celebrate how far your child has come and remind them just how proud you are of them.

✈️☁️ Today's Career Camp adventure took to the skies!

Our campers learned about aviation and aerodynamics, exploring how airplanes fly and the science behind lift, drag, thrust, and gravity. Then it was time to put their new knowledge to the test by designing and launching their own paper airplanes!

There were plenty of smiles, friendly competition, and a few impressive flights as campers experimented with different designs to see which planes could soar the farthest.

Learning is always more fun when it takes flight! ✈️💙

Stretching it, squishing it, and watching it ooze through your fingers❣️
🤢Grossing out the grown-ups while doing it? Priceless. 😆

💙 Discovery Moments

Learning often begins with curiosity.

A question.
A discovery.
A moment of focused exploration.

At Discovery School, we create opportunities for students to learn through hands on experiences that spark imagination, build confidence, and encourage growth.

Every day, our students are developing skills, solving problems, and discovering new ways to engage with the world around them.

Because some of the most meaningful learning happens when a child is simply encouraged to explore.

👜✨ Creativity and life skills were on full display at Career Camp today!

Our campers explored the world of fashion design, learning about the creative process before putting their own ideas into action by designing unique handbags. We loved seeing their personalities shine through each design!

They also rolled up their sleeves to practice important job and life skills by helping clean and organize the kitchen. From teamwork and responsibility to taking pride in a job well done, these everyday experiences help prepare campers for future success.

Learning, creating, and building confidence... just another great day at Career Camp! 💙

🎨Art 🎶Music 🏃‍♂️Movement & Lots of Smiles!

Today was packed with fun at Camp Hope!

Our campers enjoyed painting shells, revelled in their Music Therapy session courtesy of the wonderful team at Cathedral Arts Project where they explored rhythm, movement, and self-expression through music. 🎵💙

The fun continued in the gym with our friends from Brooks Pediatric Rehab, who led campers through games and activities that had everyone moving, laughing, and cheering each other on. 🏀✨

From making music to playing games, it was a day full of friendship, confidence-building, and unforgettable moments.

Check out some of today's highlights! ☀️💙

💙 Small Steps Matter

When supporting a child, it is easy to focus on the next goal, the next milestone, or the next challenge.

But growth is often found in the moments we might otherwise overlook.

A new word.

A new skill.

A successful transition.

A moment of connection.

A little more independence than yesterday.

Progress does not always happen in giant leaps. More often, it happens one small step at a time.

Today, we celebrate every step forward and every victory along the way.
