Summer is making one last appearance today! And the support our community provided this summer is still making a difference.

Thanks to our partner UnitedHealthcare, CICOA’s Cool Aid program distributed box fans, window AC units and pet cooling mats to eligible older adults and people with disabilities. These items helped our neighbors stay safe and comfortable at home this summer and are still providing relief on hot fall days like today.

Thank you, UnitedHealthcare, for helping our neighbors and their pets stay cool when they need it most.

If you or a loved one needs help keeping your home at a safe temperature, contact CICOA’s Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about available resources and support. Call 317-803-6131 or visit https://cicoa.org/resource-center/aging-disability-resource-center-overview/))

Thank you to everyone who made this morning’s Leading Through the Age Wave a success! Together, we explored how Central Indiana can better support older adults, recognize their contributions, and turn conversation into action.

A special thank-you to panelists Lisa Schneekloth, Sarah Waddle, Dr. Kevin M. McNulty, Sara VanSlambrook, and Erin G. Wright; opening speaker Melina Kennedy; moderator Eric Halvorson; and our partners, AARP Indiana and United Way of Central Indiana.

The takeaway: we need to act now. That means planning before a crisis, improving access to services, and bringing older adults, community organizations, businesses, and government together to put solutions into practice.

Speaker Spotlight: Lisa Schneekloth

What will it take to ensure older adults can remain safe, independent, and connected to their communities as Central Indiana’s population ages?

As President and CEO of CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions, Lisa Schneekloth brings nearly two decades of experience supporting older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers. Since joining CICOA as a care manager in 2008, she has held leadership roles spanning care management, options counseling, nutrition services, compliance, quality assurance, and nonprofit administration.

Lisa also understands caregiving personally. She supported her mother, a CICOA client who was able to remain in her home well into her 90s.
At Leading Through the Age Wave, Lisa will explore aging, family caregiving, aging in place, and the community-based services needed to help people live with greater independence and dignity.

This SMP Sunday: Be the first line of defense in protecting your Medicare benefits.

-Treat your Medicare card like a credit card.

-Don’t take advice or offers of medical services from people you don’t know who call, come to your house, or approach you in public.

-Read your Medicare Summary Notice or Explanation of Benefits. Look for services or equipment you didn’t receive, double charges, or things your doctor didn’t order.

-Ask questions and report problems. Call the doctor or company and ask them about mistakes. Call the insurance company if you still have questions. Get help from your local SMP.

-Share information you see on the SMP page to your page to alert people on the latest scams!

How can public systems evolve to ensure older Hoosiers and their families can find and access the support they need?

As Director, Bureau of Better Aging for My FSSA , Erin G. Wright helps connect individuals and communities with aging services, resources, and statewide initiatives. Her work provides insight into how government agencies engage residents, strengthen access to assistance, and respond to Indiana’s changing demographics.

At Leading Through the Age Wave, Erin will bring a state-government perspective to the conversation about public policy, service access, long-term care systems, and the coordination required to support older adults across Indiana.
