Trunk or Treat is one of the Junior League of Indianapolis’ signature events where members have the opportunity to provide a fun, sensory-friendly experience for families and children—all while dressing up and getting into the fall spirit! 🎃🍁

This year’s event is in partnership with Ausome Indy, and we are still seeking some additional donations—specifically sensory-friendly toys and giveaway items!

Good things happen when people who care about Indianapolis get in the same room.

Recently, the Junior League of Indianapolis welcomed 22 local nonprofit organizations to our Community Open House to connect, share ideas, and explore ways we can work together to support our community.

The conversations reminded us of the knowledge, experience, and commitment Indianapolis' nonprofit community brings. Each organization brings something different to the table, and connecting those strengths can open the door to even greater impact.

We're grateful to everyone who joined us, shared their work, and helped us explore what's possible when we collaborate.

When Shelby Ferrell moved to Indianapolis from Lexington, Kentucky, for her pharmacy residency, she didn't know anyone in the area. Then she found JLI.

What started as a way to meet people and get involved in her new community became something much bigger. Since joining, Shelby has served as Mini Fund Chair, Around the Community Chair, and now VP of Community — taking on new challenges, developing new skills, and finding even more ways to serve along the way.

For Shelby, service is also personal. Giving back is a value she shares with her grandmother, and JLI has given her a place to carry that value forward while building her own community.

That's what it can look like when service builds leaders. 💙

Women bring an incredible range of skills into their communities.

We build businesses. Lead teams. Manage budgets. Create strategies. Solve problems. Build relationships. When we put those same skills to work through service, our impact can extend far beyond the workplace.

During National Women's Small Business Month, we're celebrating women entrepreneurs and the many ways women lead across Indianapolis — and JLI offers another place to put that leadership into action.

Whether you're an entrepreneur, an established professional, early in your career, returning to the workforce, or figuring out what's next, there's value in being part of a community where women can both contribute and grow.

Leadership doesn't only happen in a boardroom.

It happens when you step into a room with people you don't know and figure out how to move an idea forward. When you listen before you lead. When a community partner identifies a need, and you help turn it into action.

For more than 100 years, women in the Junior League of Indianapolis have been doing exactly that.

Through service, our members build relationships, solve problems, organize projects, and strengthen the communities around them. Along the way, they become stronger leaders themselves.

Sometimes, you discover where you belong by doing something small beside someone else.

At our September General Membership Meeting, JLI members gathered around tables to write cards to people throughout our community. Each note offered encouragement, appreciation, and a simple reminder: you are seen.

It was one activity during one evening, but that is often how meaningful involvement begins. You show up. You try something new. You meet women who care about the same community you do — and begin to discover where your time, talents, and perspective can make a difference.

There is no single way to contribute through JLI. Your place may be in direct service, community partnership, advocacy, event planning, or organizational leadership. Sometimes, the only way to find it is to take the first step.

October is National Women's Small Business Month, and we're celebrating by putting our support where our values are. 💙

Across Indianapolis, women entrepreneurs are creating the places where we gather, shop, sip, experience the arts, and build community. Chances are, you already have a few favorites!

Maybe you're picking up a gift at Lark & Lily Boutique. Meeting a friend for dinner at Fujiyama Indy. Picking up a new hobby at Flax and Fiber Yarn Collective. Or discovering another woman-owned business in your own neighborhood.

This month, let's help more people discover them.

Community impact does not move in only one direction.

When a woman joins the Junior League of Indianapolis, she brings her own skills, experiences, and perspective to the organization. Through service, training, and collaboration, she also discovers new strengths, builds meaningful relationships, and grows her ability to lead.

A couple weeks ago we had the opportunity to spend some time at Firefly for our monthly meeting—our time together included tours of the facility, learning how Firefly has been able to multiply their impact with grant funding received through JLI, and an opportunity to write some thank you notes for Find The Good Day!
