Today is International Day of Charity, a global day recognizing the role charitable giving plays in addressing humanitarian needs around the world.

Partnership in action 💫

ALA had the chance to connect with the team at Kids’ Meals, a fellow Houston nonprofit working to end childhood hunger across the city. Kids' Meals, Inc. delivers free, healthy meals directly to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children, and their growth over the years reflects exactly the kind of long-term impact we believe in.

While the majority of our work supports children in Vietnam, we’re proud to also stand behind organizations doing incredible work right here at home. Partnerships like this let us reach more children and families in need, both abroad and in our own backyard.

At ALA-supported centers in Vietnam, children with diverse neurological and genetic conditions have a place to learn new skills throughout the year.

In vocational classrooms, children build independence and confidence through hands-on learning. One of the activities offered is candle making, where they practice focus and learn to follow each step of the process, giving children a tangible way to contribute to the community around them.

Phuong Anh was brought to Beania Home in Vietnam as a baby, placed there by parents who loved her but were unable to care for her. Though she was born with a limb difference, Phuong Anh was able to thrive through the love and support she received at this ALA-supported center.

Staff and volunteers remember her as the little girl who climbed the stairs using her one arm, smiling in a way that stayed with everyone who saw it. She left the home at six years old to return to her family, having gained something no one could measure but everyone could see: perseverance, love, and self-worth.

Today, Phuong Anh is seventeen, with a beautiful singing voice and a plan. She wants to attend college to study physics and computer science. When asked how she has navigated a life that others might have found impossible, her answer was simple:

“I am grateful for all the love I received. It helped me overcome everything.”

Thanks to you, Abandoned Little Angels has been able to support the children of Beania Home for over twenty years! ♥️

Our volunteers are the heart of our organization ♥️

This year, we celebrated their hard work and dedication with a special happy hour in their honor at Makiin | Thai! Our ALA Director, Frances Chenne, presented awards to our gala volunteers and gala co-chairs, Huy Dang and An Dang, in recognition of their outstanding service.

A special thank you to Lukkaew Srasrisuwan, Founder of MaKiin, and the team at Makiin | Thai for their generous support in making this celebration possible for our volunteers. As a continued supporter of ALA, their generosity made the evening even more special.

A special thank you to Gamma Beta - Zeta Chapter for their generosity this year. They dedicated their time volunteering at our annual gala, helped spread awareness for our cause, and contributed to our fundraising efforts, all in support of helping children in need.
