Next up for CGOA: a night at the Cabaret! 🎶

Join us Friday, November 6, for CGOA’s 3rd Annual Cabaret Fundraiser at The Ruins Events. This year’s “Behind the Scenes” evening brings performers from across CGOA together to share musical favorites. Here’s a peek at who you’ll see:

🎸 Dennis Castañares, known on stage as Alonzo Garbanzo, will perform an original song. A familiar face in the Gorge music scene, Dennis brings his talents on guitar, bass, and piano to stages throughout the region.

💃 Donna and the Dynamos are back! Jennifer Hanlon-Wilde, Emily Vawter and Lesley Saunders will reunite for “Dancing Queen.” The three appeared as Donna, Rosie and Tanya in CGOA’s 2019 production of *Mamma Mia!*

The evening also includes desserts by donation, a designer cake/pie silent auction, a no-host bar, and a paddle raise. All proceeds support CGOA’s 2026–2027 season.

Meet Lars Campbell, the Gorge Sinfonietta’s new conductor! 🎶

A conductor and trombonist who also loves hiking and kayaking, Lars was drawn to CGOA by the Gorge’s community support. He brings a focus on connection and togetherness to his debut with the ensemble—and a program inspired by the place we call home.

Landscape celebrates the power and drama of the natural world. With Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and the Columbia River as inspiration, Lars selected music that reflects the scale, beauty, and changing moods of our surroundings.

Sibelius’ Symphony No. 3 moves from pastoral passages toward a triumphant finale, evoking northern landscapes that feel at home alongside our Cascade peaks. Vaughan Williams’ Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1 draws on folk melodies to paint a reflective portrait of an English coastal community. Dvořák’s Hussite Overture brings fiery rhythms and dramatic intensity to the program.

Together, these works invite us to hear something familiar in music from far beyond the Gorge—and perhaps see our own landscape a little differently.

Tomorrow in Cascade Locks!

From Glenn Miller to the Stray Cats, The Jazz Collective Big Band takes over the Gorge Pavilion for Moonlight Over the Gorge—an evening of swing, Latin rhythms, jazz standards, and music made for dancing.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the band plays from 7–9 PM.

Less than a week until Moonlight Over the Gorge!

Under the direction of Michael Paul, the Jazz Collective Big Band brings together some of the Hood River area’s finest jazz musicians. Its concerts move easily from swing-era standards to Latin, shuffle, funk, and pop-influenced arrangements.

“This is a night made for dancing, and this band is built for it,” Paul says. “There’s something for every kind of dancer, and for anyone who just wants to sit back and feel 18 players hit a downbeat together.”

What’s on the set list for Moonlight Over the Gorge?

You’ll hear big band favorites including “In the Mood,” “Little Brown Jug,” and “One O’Clock Jump,” along with the Latin rhythms of “Besame Mucho,” “Brazil,” and “The Girl from Ipanema.”

The Jazz Collective Big Band will also take on “The Pink Panther Theme,” “Back at the Chicken Shack,” “Cold Duck Time,” “Stray Cat Strut,” and plenty more.

Hear all 18 musicians together Friday, October 23, at the Gorge Pavilion in Cascade Locks.

Moonlight Over the Gorge is a concert and dance featuring CGOA's Jazz Collective Big Band and an evening of swing, shuffle, Latin music, and jazz favorites.

Experienced dancers, first-timers, and those who would rather enjoy the music from their seats are all welcome. The Gorge Pavilion is indoors, with space to cut a rug.
