EAA Chapter 105 Visits Van’s Aircraft

EAA105 would like to extend a huge thank you to Van’s Aircraft for hosting our chapter gathering and factory tour last Thursday evening. We had an incredible time exploring the updated factory layout, seeing the new build areas, and getting an up-close look at the exciting RV-15!

It was great to spend the evening surrounded by fellow aviation enthusiasts, and we even had a couple pilots fly in for the event. A great time was had by all!

Thank you again to the team at Van’s for their hospitality and for taking the time to talk with our members about all things RV.

If you’d like the opportunity to visit amazing aviation facilities, meet great people, and be part of our aviation community, we’d love to see you at our next Chapter Gathering!

📢 Build & Fly Schedule Update

Please note that our May 10th Build & Fly session has been moved to Saturday, May 3rd to allow our youth and their families to spend Mother’s Day together. 💙

We hope to see everyone there!

At this session, we’ll be building Zagi wings out of foam—a great hands-on introduction to the skills we’ll be using when we begin working on the Skypup project. We’ll also have time for flying in the large flight sim, and if weather permits, flying RC airplanes out back!

Thanks for your understanding, and we’re looking forward to another awesome session!

EAA Chapter 105 's Monthly Blueberry Pancake Breakfast at Stark's Twin Oaks Airpark is This Saturday May, 2nd from 8-10 am. Hope to see you there!

Please join us for our Monthly Blueberry Pancake Breakfast at Twin Oaks Airpark. This event is open to the public. $10/adult and $5/child. This is a good way to see what goes on at the airport and meet other aviation enthusiasts. Proceeds go towards EAA Chapter programs.

The menu is simple: scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, strips of bacon or breakfast sausage, grits, orange juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Rain or shine, holidays or not, breakfast will be served the first Saturday of every month (The current year’s schedule is to the right below.). The hangar door to the dining hall opens at 8:00 AM. The line can get noticeably long by 9:00 AM, with many regulars showing up by 7:30 AM to avoid the crowds. The hangar door to the dining hall is usually closed by 10:00 AM, but if you’re in line by then, you’ll be served. No one goes away hungry!

Our next Build & Fly session is coming up on Sunday, April 26th from 3:30–5:00 PM at Hangar G1, Twin Oaks Airpark—we’d love to see you there!

At 5:00 PM, we will be serving burgers, hot dogs, and quesadillas.

At this session, we’ll be:

Finishing up our METAR Map project
Introducing the basics of Fusion 360 (F360)
Flying RC airplanes (weather permitting)

One of our mentors, Chris Edwards, will walk the group through how to get started with Fusion 360 and create your first 3D model. This is a great opportunity to learn how designs can be turned into real parts using a 3D printer.

If you’d like to follow along on your own device, please have Fusion 360 installed ahead of time. The link below will allow you to create an account with Autodesk and download the free, limited version for personal use:
https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal

We’ll also have everything displayed on the big screens, so even if you don’t have Fusion 360 installed, you can still follow along and learn.

Whether you're finishing your project or just getting started with CAD, this will be a fun and hands-on session for everyone.

Let us know if you have any questions—we’re looking forward to seeing you on the 26th!

Greetings -
The next EAA105 Youth Build and Fly session is tomorrow (Sunday March 15). We will be building illuminated METAR (aviation weather) maps during this session.
As usual the session will be 3:30~5:00 and we will be grilling burgers, hot dogs, and cheese quesadillas at 5:00 for those who want them.
We hope to see you there.

Build and Fly team.

Building METAR Maps for our youth to take home.

“A METAR (METeorological Aerodrome Report) is a standardized, hourly, or special aviation routine weather report used by pilots and meteorologists to determine current airport weather conditions. It provides critical, real-time data—including wind, visibility, clouds, temperature, and pressure—essential for safe, informed flight planning and “go/no-go” decisions.” https://www.weather.gov/asos/METAR.html

****Our METAR maps while drawing correct and accurate data from the weather reporting services should not be used for actual flight planning purposes. ****

++This is one of the few projects that we request a small donation. We are requesting a $15.00 donation per computer box that Mentor James Breazeal has built for the youth. Donations are exactly that. The chapter will fund any youth that can use assistance with the cost of the box++

The project will require punching holes in foam core and the maps, running wire, soldering, gluing. The Mentors will have prefabricated wood frame parts for the kids to assemble.

Please reach out to the build and fly email if you have any questions

See you tomorrow!
