Imagine coming into My Father's House carrying a couple trash bags with all your family's possessions--then finding a beautiful little safe space filled with everything needed to start your journey toward new life!

Every family entering My Father's House for the first time is provided with a studio apartment, complete with all new linen, kitchen items, toiletries, utensils and more. When they transition to Stepping Stones, they take these items with them ... and then on into their own home once they are ready to exit our programs.

How does this wonderful benefit work? Volunteer groups ADOPT A ROOM and refurbish their assigned apartment once a year.

The wonderful group pictured here partnered with Lennyd, our facilities team member, to welcome the next family coming to My Father's House with brand new items to fully furnish the apartment. Their generosity and compassion overflowed the carts, and their smiles shared their joy at serving the Lord in this way.

If your group would like to join the fun, visit to get started: https://familyshelter.org/your-impact/adopt-a-room/

Then email [email protected] to adopt your room.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Mark 5:14-16

Our own rocky Oregon shores are a picture of the rocky barriers that many of our residents experience. But we can light the way to hope in Christ. If you know a family in need of light and love, let them know about My Father's House. Be a light in the darkness.

My Father's House wants our supporters to understand the hardships our families have faced in the past and the challenges they face as they work toward more stable futures.

We've put together a page on our website that sheds a light on why so many are homeless in our region, and we encourage you to read it and pass that knowledge along to others.

Thank you for advocating for My Father's House and for our families. You are a true partner in our work.

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, says the Teacher in Proverbs. "But a longing fulfilled is a tree of life."

My Father's House offers a way to fulfilled longings ... to hope! When we asked some of the older kids at MFH what hope looked like to them, they drew pictures of God's abiding love, of dreams for higher education and of family times.

Thank you for helping families fulfill healthy longings. Pray for them as they reach out with hope for their futures!

In 2025, hundreds of volunteers provided more than 4,900 hours of work at My Father's House. Some sat at our reception desk every week greeting folks and answering phones. Some refurbished our family studio apartments. Some played, held babies and read to the children in our Children's Center. Some pulled weeds and painted wall and created art!

Every volunteer who walked into our doors helped stretch our budget just a little more and gave our staff breathing space to get MORE done!

Our volunteers and donors keep this place humming. Have you thought about serving as a volunteer? We'd love to have you! Get started here: https://familyshelter.org/your-impact/volunteer/

Emma's Story

When Emma arrived at My Father’s House with her two children, she was exhausted—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She had spent years living in fear, carefully shielding her kids from the violence that surrounded them. The night she left, she carried only a few bags and the fragile hope that somewhere, someone would help them find safety. The moment she stepped through our doors, she felt a glimmer of something she hadn’t felt in a long time—hope.

Emma and her children finally had a warm bed to sleep in and a place where fear couldn’t reach them. For the first time in years, her children slept through the night—no shouting, no doors slamming, just quiet.

Emma cried the first morning she woke up in her new safe space at My Father's House--not because she was scared, but because she realized she could breathe again. Every meal shared, every word of encouragement, every moment of kindness reminded her that they were not alone—that people she’d never even met cared enough to give her family a second chance.

Thank you for sharing with us ... those cans of food, boxes of diapers, financial gifts from your own hard-earned paychecks. They mean safe sleep, new mornings filled with peace and children no longer afraid of what life brings next.

We appreciate everything you do to help these families find hope and healing at My Father's House.
One night, as she and her children went to bed, her daughter whispered, “Mom, I feel safe here.” Emma couldn’t hold back the tears. That simple sentence—something every child should be able to say—was made possible because of you. Your kindness turned fear into peace, and despair into hope. From Emma, her children, and all of us at My Father’s House—thank you for helping families discover that healing and safety are possible again.

Though it's hard, sometimes you just gotta say no. This list of items we cannot take should help you as you consider giving to My Father's House. Since MFH has no thrift store, items like these must go in the dumpster or find homes at other organizations, costing time and money.

One of our supporters has printed out this handy dandy graphic to refer to when she has something that needs a new home. What a great idea!

We'll post this from time to time as a reminder. We love our supporters' generosity--and we're thankful for your understanding. God bless you!
