“So, O my devotees,” Abhinavagupta says to everybody, “O my devotees, asmin sanmārge, on this path of Parabhairava, the achievement of Parabhairava, whoever has taken a step with pure desire, no matter if that desire is slow or if that desire is intense or whatever it is, who has taken this step, who has tread on this step, . . .”

It does not matter if he is a brahmin, if he is a wattal (sweeper), if he is an outcast, if he is anybody, it does not matter for that.

“. . . nirato yaḥ kaścid eti sa śivatam, he becomes one with Parabhairava. Iti matvā, this way you should take in your mind, yathātathāpi prayatanīyam, whatever happens, whatever may come, go on doing practice, go on doing practice. That practice may be the lowest practice, that practice may be medium practice, that practice may be intense practice, go on doing something, yathātathāpi, whatever comes. If you are trodden down, go on doing, go on remembering God, go on remembering God. This is the way in which[ever] way you will remember [Him], bas, He will carry you, He will carry you. Because that remembrance is [the way]. It may be medium; it may be low, it may be very low, it may be the lowest, it may be intense, it may be very intense, that does not matter. Go on, another step, another step.”

There is something powerful about studying a teaching in the place where it was born.

For many years, students around the world have encountered Kashmir Shaivism through books, recordings, and the teachings of Swami Lakshmanjoo. Yet there is a different feeling when you stand in Kashmir itself—when the mountains, temples, rivers, and sacred sites that shaped this tradition become part of your direct experience.

This September, we will gather once again in Kashmir to study, contemplate, and visit the places that have carried these teachings for centuries.

Soul is un-minded mind, thoughtless mind. Soul is also mind, but thoughtless. When all thoughts and varieties are over, then soul remains, then soul appears. The treatment of mind is for soul, to treat soul, to take the soul to its original state.
What is the original state of soul? Un-minded state.

Swami Lakshmanjoo was very fond of the verses of Utpaladeva’s Shivastotravali, especially the 13th chapter, and often requested his devotees to sing these sacred hymns. Below is a brief translation revealed by Swami Lakshmanjoo of the 13th Chapter. The complete audio/transcription of the Hymns to Shiva, Songs of Devotion in Kashmir Shaivism, Utpaladeva’s Shivastotravali is available with free downloadable audio. Together we will spend twelve days exploring Kashmir Shaivism in the land where it arose, visiting sacred temples and pilgrimage sites, spending time at Swami Lakshmanjoo's ashram, and sharing in study, contemplation, and community.

Each Saturday, we gather to explore *The Secret Supreme* through the original recordings and oral teachings of Swami Lakshmanjoo, the last great master of the Kashmir Shaivism tradition.

When John and Denise Hughes first visited Swami Lakshmanjoo in Kashmir in 1971, they spent six transformative months studying directly with him in his home. Those intimate sessions became the foundation of *The Secret Supreme*, one of the first books prepared under Swamiji's direct guidance and blessings.

As we listen to Swamiji's own voice, these extraordinary teachings come alive. What was once hidden is revealed step by step, showing how individual awareness can expand into the vastness of universal Consciousness.

Each week we explore a short section together, listen to the original recordings, and engage in discussion and questions.

Swami Lakshmanjoo reveals why “God consciousness is never absent from being”, in all the states of waking, dreaming, deep sleep and the void state. This excerpt is from the Shiva Sutras, The Supreme Awakening, third awakening, verse number 31.
This universe is the expansion of his energy in objective impressions and in the dissolution of those impressions.

Not only is this universe the expansion of his energy in its creation, but it is also the expansion of his energy in the impressions of the objective world left in your mind (sthiti) and in the void state where these impressions are absorbed (laya).

When this objective world is shining vividly in your sphere of organs, that is the state of creation (sṛiṣṭi daśā). But it is not only in the state of creation that this universe is one with his real energies of God-consciousness. This universe is also one with his energies when only impressions of this objective world remain (sthiti daśā) or when these impressions melt in voidness (laya daśā) at the time of death or deep sleep, or when one is rendered unconscious. When only impressions remain, in those impressions you will find God-consciousness prevailing. And in the state of dissolution when there is no impression, when the impression is dissolved in voidness, pure God-consciousness prevails.
