Calling all Veterans!

08/21/2026

Good morning everyone, thank you for your support! Our veterans are doing well! I am reporting, the lights are on! Thank you, God!
We remain hopeful that all of our communities and residents in NWI will have their power restored very soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you to those who called to purchase another generator. Unfortunately, we don’t have a secure place to keep it. Generators theft is on the rise!
Information.
It has been reported: Generator thefts are spiking across Northwest Indiana (NWI) following a devastating derecho storm that has left over 270,000 households without power. Opportunistic thieves are targeting running portable units right out of yards and off trailers while residents cope with the multi-day regional blackout. Local communities in Lake and Porter counties are warning neighbors to actively secure their equipment.

Good morning, thank you for texting and calling me to check on the Veterans. We are so grateful.
update on our Veterans. Nipsco has indicated that 100% of restoration of power should happen by 8/21. No definite date for us at the Veterans center. No power- running off of day light and at night emergency lights and battery lanterns. I thank God that it’s now cool at night, windows can be opened. During the day, it’s cool in the lower level of the center. No hotels available. We have 24 hours staff on site. So our veterans are safe & secure, feeling anxiety because there is no internet and cell phones are unstable. We have been able to charge phone using a charging station.
The chef is serving 3 meals a day plus snacks.
Because our generator failed. We loss all 3 freezers of meat.
This natural disaster is not just about our Veterans, it involves the community. We are grateful for your thoughts and prayers.
And no we cannot except food that is prepared at individual homes only restaurants. Thank you for offering.

The chef is preparing 3 meals a day for our Veterans. 1 charging port to charge cell phones.
No hotel accommodations available due to so many in the area without power.
Needs: bottle water, paper goods, AA for lanterns providing light in the building at night. Snacks and I will post of more needs as they develop if at all.
Veterans are reporting doing well. We are grateful for your concerns. Blessings to you all. Be safe and well
