NEED HELP GETTING TO IMPORTANT APPOINTMENTS?

The Village Inclusive Recovery Project may be able to assist eligible individuals with disabilities with transportation to:

✅ ABA, speech, occupational, or physical therapy
✅ Medical appointments
✅ Disability services
✅ Pharmacies
✅ Childcare when applicable
✅ Disaster recovery appointments

Transportation support may include qualifying gas assistance, rideshare services, or public transportation.

Must reside in Gary, Merrillville, or Hobart.

Documentation is required.

💚 Not sure what you can request through The Village Inclusive Recovery Project?

Here are some examples:

🗣️ Communication Devices: AAC devices or tablets used for communication, speech-generating devices, communication buttons or switches, and picture communication systems.

🧩 Sensory & Safety Items: weighted blankets, sensory swings, compression items, noise-reducing headphones, sensory seating, safety beds, door/window alarms, and other disability-related sensory or safety equipment.

♿ Adaptive & Specialized Equipment: walkers, wheelchairs, braces, mobility equipment, durable medical equipment, and specialized disability-related supplies.

🚗 Transportation: gas assistance or other approved transportation to therapy, medical appointments, disability services, pharmacies, childcare when applicable, and disaster recovery appointments.

IMPORTANT: Replacement items must have been previously owned and damaged, destroyed, or lost because of the August 11 storm. Documentation is required.

💚 THE VILLAGE INCLUSIVE RECOVERY PROJECT — APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

We Are The Village is grateful to have received $10,000 in disaster recovery funding to provide direct assistance to individuals with disabilities who were impacted by the August 11, 2026 storm.

Through The Village Inclusive Recovery Project, this funding will support individuals with disabilities of all ages who currently live in Gary, Merrillville, or Hobart, Indiana.

Assistance may be available for:

♿ Disability Related Replacement Needs
Replacement of documented disability related items that were previously owned and were damaged, destroyed, or lost because of the storm. This may include adaptive equipment, communication devices, sensory and safety items, specialized supplies, durable medical equipment, and other disability related necessities.

🚗 Transportation & Service Access
Transportation assistance may be available for therapy, medical care, childcare when applicable, disability services, pharmacies, and disaster recovery appointments.

Adults with disabilities may apply for themselves. Parents, guardians, and caregivers may also apply on behalf of an individual with a disability.

📋 Documentation is required. Submitting an application does not guarantee assistance. Applications will be reviewed based on eligibility, documentation, qualifying need, and available funding.

We Are The Village is continuing to support our Gary community following the storm.

Tomorrow from 12 PM to 4 PM, I will be providing FREE rides for residents who need transportation to:

• Grocery stores
• Food and supply giveaways
• Other local disaster relief resources

I have a 7 passenger vehicle, so space is limited and rides will be provided based on availability.

If you or an elderly neighbor, parent, or family impacted by the storm needs help getting to essential resources, please reach out.

No charge. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

Our Village Needs the Village. ❤️

Since the August 11 storm, We Are The Village has been dealing with the same devastation affecting so many families throughout Gary.

Our operations have been disrupted, our employees have lost work and wages, and we are still working toward fully reopening.

But even while we were affected, we still showed up for Gary.

We helped provide hundreds of meals, baby food, supplies, and assistance to families and elderly residents throughout our community.

Now, we are asking for help.

We have launched a $25,000 Disaster Recovery Fund to help support our employees, stabilize our programs, reopen our doors, replace losses, and continue helping Gary recover.

We spent this disaster taking care of Gary.

Now we need our Village to help us recover.
