Today we welcome a new show to our Meetinghouse Arts Gallery— point.sequence.consequence: 30 Years of Collaboration—from Artist + Friend of MhA Evan Haynes & New Hampshire-based Poet Stephen Dignazio.

Haynes & Dignazio’s show begins before entering the building, with a public art piece titled Hollow Autobody, carved by Haynes from a 150 year old fallen tree, inspired by Dignazio’s poem “Hollow Autobody Echoes Days”.

When asked how Dignazio’s poem informs the piece, Haynes writes:

“The poem muses on shifting fortunes as an old farm became an autobody shop down in the hollow of Bethlehem NH. When Stephen and I first lived in that region of the North Country 50+ years ago, there was a legend of a man who had himself buried inside a tree, again, supposedly down in the hollow. These two themes ran through my head in carving this tree.”

The pair’s constructive process employs language and the visual arts, drawing inspiration from both, expanding possible “readings” through context and the viewer’s experience, drawings, paintings, lenticular prints, assemblage, interactive and sculptural work in various materials.

Please join us in The Gallery on Friday, August 28 from 5-7pm for an Artists Opening Reception, or stop by the Gallery August 28 - September 7 to experience the show.

This week at our Meetinghouse Arts Gallery, we welcome a new exhibit "point.sequence.consequence" from Artists + Friends of MhA Evan Haynes & Stephen Dignazio. Please plan to join us in the Gallery this Friday, August 28 from 5:00-7:00pm for an opening reception with the artists.

About the Show:
Evan Haynes, visual artist of Freeport, Maine and Stephen Dignazio, poet of Bethlehem, New Hampshire have been creative collaborators for 30 years. Their constructive process employs language and the visual arts, drawing inspiration from both, expanding possible “readings” through context and the viewer’s experience.

The exhibition will include drawings, paintings, lenticular prints, assemblage, interactive and sculptural work in various materials. Evan and Stephen’s work has been exhibited widely in the US and abroad with support from New England States’ Arts Councils and universities, the National Parks Service, various foundations, the New England Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. As longtime residents, life in northern New England is central to this expression.

"point.sequence.consequence" is on view in the Meetinghouse Arts Gallery from Friday, August 28 through Monday, September 7.
