Plan to join us tomorrow, Saturday, February 15th to enjoy refreshments and learn more about opportunities to become a water quality monitor for the Weskeag, St. George or Medomak estuaries. Staff and current volunteers will be available at GRTA's riverfront office at 62 Water Street in Thomaston from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm to visit and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!

Are you interested in meeting new friends and making a difference in your community? You can do both when you volunteer to sample water quality in the Weskeag, St. George or Medomak estuaries. Volunteer trainings for new and returning water monitors are scheduled for April 13th and 20th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and will take place at GRTA's office located at 62 Water Street in Thomaston. Steering Committee member Jon Eaton will discuss the results of GRTA's 2012 citizen monitoring efforts on the St. George River estuary tomorrow evening, March 14th at 6:30 pm at the Rockland Public Library. The event is co-sponsored by the Library, the Georges River Land Trust and the Georges River Tidewater Association. Admission is free and we would love to see you there!

Mark your calendars and plan to join us at GRTA's Annual Membership Meeting on Monday evening, March 18th from 7:00-9:00 pm at Watt's Hall in Thomaston. Attendees will be invited to enjoy coffee and dessert and hear a report on the results of the 2012 sampling season and the opportunities available to participate as a water quality monitor this year. Christine Tilburg, Program Manager of the Ecosystems Indicator Partnership with the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment will be the evening's keynote speaker addressing the importance of citizen monitoring efforts.

Come see GRTA's new office, with beautiful frontage on the St. George River estuary! Please mark your calendars and plan to swing by with family and friends and say hello on Saturday, February 16th between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at 62 Water Street in Thomaston. We'll have water quality results to share from last season, refreshments and volunteer applications on hand for those interested in monitoring the river with us this year. GRTA had a wonderful Saturday morning meeting with local educators from RSU District #13 and the Herring Gut Learning Center to discuss opportunities to develop a science-based curriculum module using the St. George Estuary as the foundation for field and lab science experiments, data mining and interpretation. Through funding provided by the Maine Coastal Program, we look forward to implementing a pilot program with local midcoast students in the Fall of 2013!
