Curious about biochar and how it can be used to improve agricultural soils? 🌱

On Sept. 16, see biochar production in action during an on-farm demonstration and field walk at Fable Farmstead and Wolfe’s Neck Center. The day will include a demonstration of how biochar is produced, a discussion about its use in agriculture and visits to on-farm biochar trials.

That’s a wrap on 2026 Farm Camp! ☀️

We had such a fun summer filled with crafts, hikes, games, laughs and plenty of learning. Farm Camp is all about connecting kids with nature, animals and the regional food system, and we loved sharing those experiences with campers all summer long.

A huge thank-you to our incredible camp counselors, lead staff, junior counselors and counselors-in-training for making each day so special, and to our campers’ families for supporting their adventures and to all of our staff who helped make Farm Camp happen.

We’re already missing the muddy boots, big laughs and curious questions. What a summer!

The future of dairy depends on creating clear pathways for the next generation of farmers. 🐄

Our Growing Graziers cohort is helping aspiring dairy farmers build the skills, knowledge and relationships they need to pursue careers in managed grazing. Through hands-on training, regional meetups and connections with experienced graziers, participants are learning directly from farmers who are putting these practices to work every day.

Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center recently featured Growing Graziers and the work we’re doing to strengthen the regional Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship program. Read the full story to learn how we’re investing in the next generation of Northeast dairy farmers.

With funding from the Catalyzing Regional Dairy Workforce Grant, Wolfe’s Neck Center is transforming the DGA program for the Northeast.

In the Seven Sisters Garden, our team is hand pollinating Abenaki Rose Corn to preserve the variety's integrity and ensure healthy seed for future harvests. While corn is naturally wind pollinated, this careful process controls cross-pollination ensuring cobs full of kernels and protecting the characteristics that make this Abenaki-cultivated variety unique.

This season also marks an important milestone. Through a partnership between our Casco History Lab and Jennifer Neptune of the Penobscot Nation, Abenaki Rose Corn and other Wabanaki foods are growing on Wolfe's Neck Center land for the first time in over 250 years, reconnecting the landscape with Penobscot caretaking and an Indigenous crop that has deep cultural and agricultural significance.

Take home a taste of campus! Stop into the Farm Store to purchase Cowboy Candy, Dill Pickles, Bloody Mary Mix and Marinara Sauce, all crafted by our culinary team using vegetables grown here on campus.

These products are part of our commitment to reducing food waste. We transform farm-fresh vegetables that are perfectly safe and delicious to eat but may not be the right shape or appearance for our Farm Store into flavorful pantry staples. It's one more way we make the most of every harvest while creating something delicious to enjoy at home or share as a gift.
