Celebrating Talent, Culture & Community in Uganda 🇺🇬✨

On August 15, our students in Namayumba celebrated their school's anniversary and the end of another term with a joyful showcase of talent, culture, and creativity.

From traditional dance and song to drama and more, the children took the stage with confidence — proudly sharing their gifts and celebrating the rich culture of Uganda. 💃🏾🎶🎭

It was the perfect way to close out the term and reflect on how far our students have come, not just academically, but in confidence, creativity, and community.

We're so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm this term, and grateful to everyone who helps make their education possible. ❤️

🌍✨ CELEBRATING DR. JOVANY FLORVIL — 2026 .ORG IMPACT AWARDS RISING STAR HONOREE!

We are incredibly proud to share that Dr. Jovany Florvil has been recognized in the Rising Star category of the 2026 .ORG Impact Awards! 🏆🇭🇹

Selected from more than 4,200 submissions representing 145 countries, this global recognition celebrates Jovany’s extraordinary commitment to creating opportunities for young people in Haiti.

Jovany has been an integral part of EDUCARE’s work in Haiti, helping expand access to STEM education and robotics while mentoring young people to see themselves as problem-solvers, innovators, and leaders.

What makes his story even more remarkable is that he has pursued this work alongside his own demanding journey. Jovany recently graduated from medical school with honors, balancing the work of becoming a physician with an unwavering commitment to investing in Haiti’s next generation.

Through EDUCARE’s robotics programs and the FIRST Tech Challenge, Jovany has helped create opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in engineering, technology, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. 🤖

But what makes us proudest isn’t simply what Jovany has accomplished for himself. It’s how consistently he uses his own opportunities to create opportunities for others.

As one of five Rising Star honorees, Jovany and EDUCARE will receive a $2,500 donation to further this work. Jovany will also be recognized at the .ORG Impact Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on October 6.

Jovany, we could not be more proud of you. Thank you for believing so deeply in Haiti’s young people, for leading by example, and for building opportunities for the next generation. 🇭🇹❤️

📚 Exam Season at EDUCARE NOW Uganda: Secondary Students Preparing for Their Next Step 🇺🇬

The past weeks have been filled with revision, practice exams, and long hours of preparation for our secondary school students.

Our Senior 1, Senior 2, and Senior 3 students have completed their end-of-term exams after studying subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Biology, History, Geography, English, Literature, Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Kiswahili, Luganda, Christian Religious Education, and more.

For our candidates, the focus continues.

🎓 Senior 4 students Sharon, Catherine, and Wilson are preparing for their UCE National Exams, while Senior 6 candidate Marvin is working towards his **UACE exams**, which are an important step towards university.

Their preparation has included:
📖 Morning and evening revision sessions
📝 Past papers and mock exams
👩🏾‍🏫 Teacher support and guidance
🤝 Group study and peer support

One of the highlights this term has been seeing students support each other. The Senior 2 and Senior 3 students have been helping Bonita, our Senior 1 student, especially with Mathematics and Physics. Starting secondary school and facing her first major exams was challenging, but with the support of her peers, she has gained confidence.

As the term ends, there is a mixture of relief and focus. The Senior 1–3 students are looking forward to a short holiday to rest, help at home, and return next term ready for more learning activities.

The Senior 4 and Senior 6 candidates will continue with their final revision and preparation as they wait for their National Exams.

Please keep Sharon, Catherine, Wilson, and Marvin in your thoughts as they complete this important stage of their education.

🚍 On our way to Port-au-Prince! 🇭🇹🤖
Today, Team Educáre Haiti is headed to Port-au-Prince after being invited by the Banque de la République d'Haïti (BRH) to serve as the featured presenters at tomorrow's AI, STEM & Robotics Expo.

We are incredibly honored that the organizers chose to fly our team in from Jacmel to showcase how Haitian students are using technology to solve real-world problems and imagine a brighter future.

Tomorrow we'll be demonstrating:
🤖 Our FIRST Tech Challenge National Competition Robot—designed, built, and programmed by Haitian students.
🧠 The mBot Mind-Controlled Robot—demonstrating how brain-computer interfaces can be used to control robotics.
🥽 Our Virtual Reality Classroom—bringing immersive STEM learning experiences to students.
🎭 Bob, our humanoid robot inspired by Jacmel's world-famous papier-mâché tradition.
🌱 TerraLink, our environmental IoT monitoring system designed to help protect natural resources through real-time data.
🚀 Mission ShakthiSAT—our international space initiative, where one of our students will represent Haiti alongside young women from around the world in designing a satellite mission.

One exhibit is especially meaningful to us.
Jacmel is known around the world for its incredible papier-mâché artistry. As our students began designing a humanoid robot, they asked a simple question:
Why should technology look like it came from somewhere else?
So they built Bob—a robot that celebrates Haitian creativity while showcasing what's possible through engineering and artificial intelligence.

For us, innovation doesn't replace culture.

It grows from it.

The Banque de la République d'Haïti has challenged the country to think boldly about artificial intelligence, innovation, and Haiti's future.

One of the greatest privileges of working alongside the Maasai community is being welcomed into moments that have been passed down for generations.

Recently, our team was invited to witness a traditional ceremony marking the transition of a Moran (warrior) into the next stage of life as an elder.

For the Maasai, this is far more than a celebration—it is a rite of passage. It marks the beginning of new responsibilities: providing wisdom, guiding younger generations, strengthening the community, and preserving traditions that have endured for centuries.

It was an honor to be present, to learn, and to celebrate alongside our friends. Experiences like these remind us that meaningful partnership begins with listening, respecting, and valuing the cultures and communities we are privileged to serve.

📚 School Visitation Day — Uganda ❤️

On July 5, our Uganda team spent the day visiting our children at boarding school—checking on their progress, encouraging them in their studies, and reminding them that they are deeply loved.

We met with teachers, reviewed classwork, and shared a special lunch of matooke (plantain), potatoes, rice, chicken, vegetables, fresh fruit, chapati, roasted groundnuts, maize, and soda. The smiles around the table reminded us that some of the most meaningful moments are often the simplest.

One of the highlights of the day was watching Allen, one of our youngest students, confidently stand before her class and read aloud without fear. Moments like these remind us what is possible when children are given encouragement, opportunity, and people who believe in them.
After school, the children proudly showed us their books, shared stories about what they're learning, prayed with us, sent their love to Sister Lauren, and hugged us goodbye. Jennifer couldn't wait to show us her math book, while the youngest children held our hands all the way to the school gate.

School visits are about so much more than checking in. They strengthen our partnership with teachers, help us identify challenges early, and remind every child of one simple truth:
You are seen. You are loved. You are not forgotten.

How do you turn a plain piece of white cotton into a work of art? One careful step at a time. 🎨

At Tumaini Collective, our artisans are keeping alive the beautiful, nearly-vanishing craft of hand-made batik. It starts with clean cotton, then wax — drawn freehand or pressed with hand-carved stamps — followed by layers of dye, each one added and protected in turn. Finally, hot water melts the wax away, revealing a pattern that was hidden underneath the whole time. It's a moment that never gets old to watch.
No machines are involved. No two pieces are ever exactly the same.

This craft is becoming rare, even in the parts of East Africa where it has deep roots. That's why we're proud to help preserve it — while creating meaningful, lasting employment for women artisans in Tanzania.

This past weekend, our Uganda family gathered for a work bee at our property and future home site in Namayumba. 🌱

The little ones swept floors in rooms where construction is still underway. The girls joined Alex, our land keeper, in weeding the garden. Wilson cut back tall grass around the compound to keep it safe. Marvin, now in his final year of secondary school, roasted maize harvested from our own land. Ezra helped prepare hot porridge.

And then, together, every child—from the smallest to the oldest—sat down to enjoy a meal they had helped grow. 🌽

They were also delighted to discover a ripe jackfruit on the property and enjoyed every sweet bite. 🍈

After the work was finished, they gathered together to learn a new song written by a friend. One line especially stuck with them:

*"I'm rich. It's the love and the life that I live."*

What a beautiful reminder that love is the greatest currency—and we have it in abundance.

What we love most about this experience isn't the work that got done. It's what is being built along the way:

✨ Responsibility
✨ Pride
✨ Teamwork
✨ Belonging

These children aren't simply receiving care. They're helping build a home and learning what it means to care for something together.

Thank you to every supporter who makes moments like this possible. Because of you, our children have more than a place to stay. They have land to cultivate, skills to learn, a community to belong to, and a future they are helping shape with their own hands.
