One of the best parts of the MainePPA Convention is seeing photographers learn through hands-on experience.

From setup to shooting, attendees had the opportunity to work alongside our speakers, ask questions, and put new techniques into practice in real time.

A special thank you to for providing the backdrops used during this workshop. They were easy to set up, looked fantastic, and helped create a professional shooting environment for our attendees.

Join Maine PPA and Travis Patenaude for a full-day, hands-on Pets + People workshop focused on creating meaningful dog and human portraits using simple, dramatic low-key lighting.
You’ll work with real dogs, real people, and real moments while learning:
• Dog body language + safer session flow
• Natural posing for everyday clients
• One to three light setups
• Story-driven prompts for genuine connection
• Guided live shooting
• A full editing walkthrough you can revisit later
Whether you photograph pets regularly or just want to feel more confident when dogs show up during sessions, you’ll leave with practical skills you can use immediately.
Lunch is included, the class takes place at the University of Maine, and afterward we’ll head to Family Dog for dinner and relaxed hangout time with Travis.
