📚 Another life-changing step forward today at Justice Jobs of Maryland!

Please help us congratulate Ray, who officially enrolled in our GED Program today through our partnership with the Literacy Council of Frederick County. 👏

Ray was excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue his education and work toward a brighter future. Through support from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCCP), Justice Jobs of Maryland is able to cover the cost of the program for eligible justice-involved participants, removing barriers and creating real opportunities for change.

Education is more than earning a diploma — it is about restoring confidence, creating stability, and opening doors to employment and long-term success.

We are proud of Ray for taking this important step. 💙

If you or someone you know is justice-involved and interested in earning their GED, contact Justice Jobs of Maryland to learn more about available opportunities.

📚 Today was a powerful reminder of why we do this work.

Ricky officially signed up for the Justice Jobs of Maryland GED Program today, and he was overjoyed and emotional about the opportunity to finally continue his education and work toward a better future. ❤️

For many justice-involved individuals, barriers and setbacks can make goals feel impossible. Moments like this remind us that hope, support, and opportunity truly change lives.

Thanks to funding from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCCP), we are able to help individuals take meaningful steps toward stability, employment, and self-sufficiency through education and workforce development.

We are incredibly proud of Ricky for taking this step forward.

If you or someone you know is justice-involved and interested in earning their GED, we currently have scholarship opportunities available.

Thank you to all who joined us and contributed to Wednesday’s event.

We are grateful to Congressman David Trone, Brad Hill, CEO of Comus Construction, and David Schmidt, owner of Wag’s Restaurant — all second chance employers — for their leadership and for speaking in support of this work.

We extend our sincere appreciation to County Executive Jessica Fitzwater for her continued support of Justice Jobs of Maryland and for awarding $30,000 through the HEART Grant.

We also thank the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy, the Department of Juvenile Services, and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department for their ongoing partnership and commitment to this work.

We are especially appreciative of Congressman Trone and his office for their direct support of our clients since 2020, during the height of COVID — helping individuals navigate complex systems and access real, timely solutions when it mattered most.

Thank you to our speakers — Tynell, Nicole, Elliott, and Ronald — for sharing your stories of second chances and for demonstrating what long-term success looks like through this work.

It was an honor to have you all with us.

Reminder.

If you or someone you know has been incarcerated — especially for charges related to substance use — this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

Jobs reduce recidivism. It’s that simple.

We’re bringing together community members, our clients, and partners for a real conversation about reentry, employment, and what actually works — including Congressman David Trone.

This is not political.
This is not a panel.

This is real life.

Be in the conversation.

What happens after incarceration?

That’s the question—and the answer affects all of us.

On April 15, Justice Jobs of Maryland is bringing together community voices, lived experiences, and leadership—including David Trone—to talk about what actually works in reentry.

We’re talking about:
• Jobs
• Second chances
• Breaking systemic barriers

Because when people work, communities are safer.

Full Day of Staff Training & Alignment at Justice Jobs of Maryland

Today was a powerful day of growth, reflection, and alignment for our team.

We spent the day in an all-staff training led by Dr. Laura Sherwood, focused on strengthening our work, our communication, and our impact as we continue breaking barriers in reentry and workforce development.

A special thank you to Josh Pedersen from the Ausherman Family Foundation for spending the morning with us, alongside board members Brad Hill and Brett Arnold.

The energy in the room was contagious. Our staff spent weeks preparing their presentations—and it showed. This team is experienced, committed, and deeply invested in the work.

A special thank you as well to Ellen Koronet, now in her second year working with us on data and evaluation through LNK Creatives, and to Ashley De Capua from Curved Theory for presenting exciting updates on our upcoming website.

We’re also grateful for the local support that helped fuel the day:
Breakfast from Twin Bears Bakery
Lunch from Set the Table

We’ve been doing this work—and we’re continuing to build, strengthen, and lead with purpose.
