The Half Slice 🥧

The Half Slice is the most approachable route option at the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic and is designed with newer riders and shorter-day riders in mind.

The route stays primarily within Snake Farm Ranch and features a mix of gravel and singletrack that emphasizes confidence, flow, and enjoyment over distance or fatigue.

Whether it’s a rider’s first gravel event or simply the route that best fits the day, the Half Slice offers a welcoming way to be part of the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic.

Every entry into the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic helps support youth cycling initiatives through the Steve Tilford Foundation, including programs like Let’s Ride!.

We’ll release final route files closer to the event on September 26. Registration is open now.

Let’s Ride! is launching in Lawrence with a goal of serving approximately 420 second graders across seven Title I elementary schools.

Every participating student will have the opportunity to receive:
🚲 A brand-new bicycle
⛑️ A properly fitted helmet

Each student takes their bike home at the end of the day.

The program is built around a simple goal: creating more access to movement, outdoor play, and the experience of riding a bike.

Donations are currently being matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

The Slice 🥧

The Slice delivers a shorter route option at the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic while still bringing riders through the terrain and atmosphere that define the event.

The course combines gravel roads and singletrack in and around Snake Farm Ranch, creating a route that stays engaging from start to finish without requiring an all-day commitment.

The Slice is approachable for newer riders, but still includes enough variety to reward smooth pacing, good line choice, and confident riding.

Many kids at Title I schools face barriers to independent outdoor play, daily movement, and safe mobility outside of school settings.

Many simply do not have access to a bicycle.

Let’s Ride! is a school-based program that provides second graders at Title I schools with their very own bicycle and helmet. The goal is simple: remove barriers to movement and create access so more kids can experience the freedom and joy that come with riding.

This fall, the Steve Tilford Foundation is working with Lawrence Public Schools to launch the program in Lawrence.

Donations are currently being matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

We launched a Strava club for the Steve Tilford Foundation.

The goal is simple: bring together people who care about riding bikes, supporting community, and helping grow initiatives like Let’s Ride! and the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic.

We’ll also use this group to share training rides, route ideas, and meetup opportunities leading into the STF Epic this fall.

Whether you’re training hard, riding casually, or just want to stay connected to what we’re building, we’d love to have you there.

The Half Pie 🥧

The Half Pie offers a challenging and rewarding route at the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic without committing to the longest distance of the day.

Built around two distinct loops, the course carries riders through Snake Farm Ranch and out onto the surrounding gravel roads, mixing together fast gravel, flowing singletrack, and constantly changing terrain throughout the ride.

The route is fully rideable on a gravel bike and designed for riders looking for a solid day on the bike with enough variety to keep things interesting from start to finish.

Every entry into the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic helps support youth cycling initiatives through the Steve Tilford Foundation, including programs like Let’s Ride!.

We’ll release final route files closer to the event on September 26. Registration is open now.

The Whole Pie 🥧

The Whole Pie is our longest route at the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic, connecting all three loops into one course with a mix of gravel roads, flowing singletrack, and repeated returns through Snake Farm Ranch throughout the day.

The route is fully rideable on a gravel bike and rewards good pacing, confident bike handling, and thoughtful equipment choices. Riders will experience a little bit of everything the course has to offer across a long day on the bike.

Many kids at Title I schools don’t have access to a bike.

That limits how they move, how they play, and how they experience the world around them.

These barriers often show up as limited access to:ďż˝
• Independent outdoor play
• Daily movement
• Safe mobility outside of school

Let’s Ride! is built to close that gap in a direct, tangible way by putting a bike and helmet into each child’s hands.

Right now, all donations are being matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

If you’ve been thinking about supporting this, your impact goes twice as far.

Snake Farm Ranch is the home of the Steve Tilford Foundation Epic.

Located just north of Lawrence, Kansas, Snake Farm Ranch serves as the heart of the event. The race begins and ends at the ranch, and much of the day’s activity remains centered there. The property combines gravel roads that extend into the surrounding countryside with singletrack trails purpose-built within the ranch itself, creating a cohesive and immersive venue.

Each route returns through Snake Farm Ranch multiple times. Rather than sending riders off onto a single long course, the design brings them back in stages, allowing spectators, families, and volunteers to stay engaged throughout the day. This structure creates a shared experience, where the progression of the race is visible and riders benefit from repeated moments of encouragement as they pass through familiar ground.

More than a start and finish location, Snake Farm Ranch functions as a gathering place that anchors the entire event, from the opening rollout to the final finishers.

Steve had a gift for sharing what he loved. Cycling wasn’t only about racing or training - it was about freedom, confidence, and community. He believed giving a kid the chance to ride could change how they saw themselves and the world around them.

That belief sits at the heart of the Steve Tilford Foundation, and it’s shared by partners like Sunflower who have always understood that bikes can open doors when they’re put into the right hands.

These images were taken in 2014 and 2016 at bike fairs Steve helped bring to local elementary schools, alongside partners like Sunflower Outdoor & Bike. Helmets, big smiles, and a lot of nervous excitement as kids rolled through a fun skills course, many riding with a helmet for the first time.

We’ve been reflecting on moments like this and thinking carefully about how to carry that spirit forward in a way that feels true to Steve. More to come, when the time is right.
