Today is Public Radio Music Day — a celebration of something worth protecting: music chosen and shared by people, for people.

Noncommercial public radio still makes room for discovery. For local musicians. For genres and artists that don’t always fit neatly into commercial playlists. For hosts who know the music and communities they serve. And for that wonderful experience of hearing something you didn’t know you needed to hear.

At KUAF, that’s what we’re here for. Yes, we’re a news station. Turns out, we play a lot of music, too.

Our schedule includes World Cafe, Tiny Desk Radio, Mountain Stage, All Songs Considered, Alt.Latino, Jazz Night in America and more — alongside locally produced programs including Shades of Jazz, KUAF Vinyl Hour, Jazz Scoop, The Pickin’ Post, Natural States and Ozark Highlands Radio.

And that’s before KUAF Live Sessions, Music Spotlights, and the performances, interviews and music stories on Ozarks at Large.

This year’s Public Radio Music Day theme is “Sounds Like Home.” We love that. Because this is part of what home sounds like here.

Harrison is the Big Chief of The Congo Square Nation Afro-New Orleans Cultural Group from New Orleans and collaborates with funk, Latin, soul and hip-hop bands. the Jazz Scoop airs at 10 p.m. Saturday on KUAF 91.3 fm.
