Honoring Fathers Who Showed Up

📍 Juanita Beach Park, Kirkland

This special event is dedicated to celebrating the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, mentors, and father figures who stepped up when it mattered most.

Join us for an afternoon of community, connection, food, fun, and appreciation as we honor the men who have made a lasting impact in the lives of children and families.

Whether you are a father, have a father figure you’d like to honor, or simply want to support kinship families in our community, we would love to have you there.

Please share this post and help us spread the word!

Because at the end of the day…

When love steps in, support should already be there waiting. ❤️

Question: “Robbyanna, why do you go so hard for your kinship families?”

Because I truly believe that it takes a village.

I recently had a grandmother come up to me and tell me that she is using her retirement money to take care of her granddaughter. That broke my heart, because no grandparent or kinship caregiver should have to struggle alone just because they stepped up out of love.

These families are opening their homes, their hearts, and their lives to children who need stability, safety, and love. They are doing this from the kindness of their hearts, and they deserve support too.

That is why Love Beyond Blood Foundation exists. To help fill in the gaps in any way we can.

Because when love shows up, support should already be there waiting.

This nonprofit was born from lived experiences. I know what it feels like to suddenly become responsible for a child. I know the emotional weight, the financial strain, the sleepless nights, the appointments, the sacrifices, and the fear of trying to figure it all out alone. I also know the love that comes with it.

Kinship caregivers are the unsung heroes of our communities.

And as long as I have breath in my body, I will continue fighting for these families, advocating for these children, and reminding kinship caregivers that they are seen, valued, appreciated, and loved.

Love Beyond Blood Foundation was built with love, compassion, and purpose. This is bigger than me. This is about building the village our families deserve.

Today my heart is so full of gratitude. ❤️

Love Beyond Blood Foundation has officially received a generous grant from Target , and I honestly cannot stop smiling. To know that people and companies believe in our mission means more than words could ever express.

This support will help us continue showing up for kinship families in our community with love, compassion, and real support when they need it most.

As a kinship caregiver myself, this journey is deeply personal to me. Every donation, every partnership, and every opportunity helps us continue building something meaningful for families who are often overlooked.

From the Love Beyond Blood Foundation family, thank you, Target, for believing in our vision and helping us make a difference in the lives of children and caregivers. We are beyond grateful.

Today I attended my first kinship meeting with other kinship parents and guardians, and honestly, it was such an amazing experience. ❤️

I was invited to attend the meeting to discuss Love Beyond Blood Foundation and the work we are doing to support kinship families. Sitting in a room with people who truly understand this journey was emotional in the best way possible.

The sacrifices. The love. The exhaustion. The strength it takes to step up and raise children out of love and necessity.

Being able to share my nonprofit with other kinship guardians felt so special because this foundation was built from lived experience, love, and a deep understanding of the challenges kinship families face every single day.

There were also questions heavy on my heart during the meeting.

Why do foster youth often qualify for more college assistance and educational support programs, while many kinship children, who have experienced similar trauma and instability, do not receive the same level of support?

Also why don’t kinship families receive the same back to school vouchers, gift cards or holiday help that many foster families receive?

Kinship caregivers step up every single day to keep children safe, loved, and connected to family. Many of these children have faced the same hardships as children in foster care, yet their access to long term resources and support can look very different.

Kinship families save the state money, stabilize lives, and keep children rooted in love and family. Our children deserve equal opportunities, equal support, and equal chances at success.

These are not questions asked out of anger. They are questions being asked out of advocacy, compassion, and a genuine desire to see all children supported equally.

Thank You, God, for putting me in this position. Thank You for turning my pain into purpose and allowing me to advocate for kinship families and children who deserve love, stability, support, and a future full of opportunity.

Moments like this remind me exactly why Love Beyond Blood Foundation exists. 💙

The more I read Blake’s story, the more heartbroken and upset I become. And truthfully, my story is very similar to Tara Harris’ story. This is exactly why I started Love Beyond Blood Foundation.

Kinship caregivers are out here sacrificing everything to protect children, yet it often feels like we are the least supported people in the system.

In Washington State, there is such a strong push to “keep families together” that sometimes it feels like child safety comes second. And that is heartbreaking to me. Because children are the ones paying the price when reunification happens too soon.

Blake could have died.

This little boy was returned to his biological mother while she was still in treatment and still trying to stabilize her own life. In my personal opinion, no child should be living in a treatment facility as part of a reunification plan. Parents deserve support and opportunities for recovery, absolutely. But children deserve safety, stability, and permanence first.

I am not against reunification when it is truly safe. I believe people can change. I believe healing and recovery are possible. But I also believe there should be strict and consistent requirements before a child is returned home.

I believe there should be:
• Drug and alcohol evaluations
• Psychological evaluations
• Completion of treatment
• Parenting classes
• Stable housing
• Stable employment or income
• Long term sobriety
• Consistent, healthy contact with the child over time

And personally, I believe these things should be demonstrated consistently for at least 12 months before reunification is even considered. Then reevaluated carefully to determine if returning the child is truly safe and in the child’s best interest.

Because relapse is real.

And when adults relapse, children suffer the consequences of decisions they had no control over.

This is not about attacking biological parents. Addiction is painful and recovery is hard. But protecting children should always come first.

This is why Love Beyond Blood Foundation exists. To support kinship caregivers like Tara Harris and so many others who step in out of pure love to protect children when they need safety the most.

Kinship caregivers are often the ones doing the hard work behind the scenes. We are attending appointments, managing trauma, rebuilding routines, sacrificing financially, and trying to give these children peace after chaos.

These children deserve more than temporary safety. They deserve lasting stability.

My heart truly goes out to Blake, Tara, and every kinship family navigating a system that too often overlooks the people holding these children together.

This is why I advocate so strongly. Not out of hate for biological parents, but out of love for children.

Because protecting children should always come before protecting feelings.

Love Beyond Blood Foundation would like to invite all kinship families to our very First Annual “Honoring Fathers Who Showed Up” event.

This event is for the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, cousins, mentors, and every man who stepped up to love, guide, protect, and support a child. We want to celebrate the men who lead with love and recognize the sacrifices, dedication, and selflessness that father figures pour into their families every single day.

As we celebrate the fathers who are still here, we will also honor the fathers and father figures who are no longer with us through a special balloon release in loving memory of my husband, Joseph May, and all the incredible men whose love and legacy continue to live on through the people they touched.

This event is deeply personal to me because Joseph was truly the definition of a man who showed up for his family. Im honored to create something beautiful that brings families together and reminds people that love, presence, and sacrifice matter.

All kinship families are welcome. Let us celebrate you.

It honestly makes my heart sad when I have to turn people away. I really just wish people would take a moment to fully read our flyers before reaching out. Love Beyond Blood Foundation was created specifically for kinship families. That means children being raised by someone other than their biological parents.

Kinship families include:
Grandparents raising grandchildren.
Aunts and uncles stepping in.
Older siblings becoming caregivers.
Cousins, family friends, or relatives taking on the parenting role when parents cannot.

That is who our foundation was built for.

Today, about 85% of the calls I received were from biological parents asking for diapers, wipes, formula, and other assistance. And while my heart absolutely goes out to anyone struggling, I have to stay true to the mission and purpose of this foundation. My first responsibility will always be to kinship families because they are often overlooked and carrying enormous responsibility with little support.

Please understand, saying “I’m sorry, we only serve kinship families” is not easy for me. I genuinely hate turning people away because I know times are hard for so many families right now.

Now, there are moments when we may open certain items to the public community. For example, if we have formula, food, or supplies that are nearing expiration or we simply have an overflow and need to make room to restock. During those times, we may assist low income families outside of kinship care.

But our core mission remains the same:
Supporting kinship families.

Kinship caregivers are some of the most selfless people I have ever met. Many step in overnight with no warning, no financial preparation, and no resources. One phone call can completely change their lives. They open their homes and hearts simply out of love.

So when you see Love Beyond Blood Foundation speaking about support for kinship families, please know exactly what that means and who we are advocating for.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support, understand, and stand beside this mission.
