A Snohomish County senior center is prioritizing community among Black elders to combat isolation and foster connection.
Every Tuesday, a group of Black seniors meet to share meals, fellowship and participate in activities through culturally-specific programs curated by Homage Senior Services inside the Carl Gipson Senior Center in Everett.
“It makes me feel wonderful because, as you know, in this area - and we talk about it all the time - you know, there's not very many of us. And being sheltered and in-home most of our lives, especially when we get to the age we are and not seeing people like us,” Nuckles said.

LGBTQ+ elders are the first generation aging openly at this scale, yet many of the systems meant to support older adults (housing, care management, mental health, and social services) remain deeply unprepared for their needs and experiences, leaving LGBTQ+ elders isolated and underserved.
This panel will bring providers and LGBTQ+ elders into direct conversation: the ask is to show up, listen, and learn. This will be a space for LGBTQ+ elders to show what truly inclusive aging support could look like.

week at our Multicultural Senior Center!

The Vietnamese and Filipino Senior Groups welcomed Mike DelaRosa< Outreach Worker from the Snohomish County Health Department for an educational presentation on latent (sleeping) tuberculosis.

This topic is especially important, as the Vietnamese community is one of the populations in Snohomish County that is more likely to test positive for latent tuberculosis. Attendees learned about the importance of testing, treatment options, and how latent TB differs from active TB. The presentation generated meaningful discussion, with many thoughtful questions from participants.

Thank you to Mike and the Snohomish County Health Department for providing this valuable health education and helping our community stay informed and healthy.
