Today, we joined Jacqueline Cook to celebrate the opening of Micah's Market, the newest neighborhood grocery store supported through the Green Grocer Program.

For years, Jacqueline has been feeding her neighbors through food giveaways, community partnerships and her nonprofit work. Now, she's expanding that mission seven days a week with a market offering fresh produce, dairy, meat, pantry staples and affordable grocery options right in the Crary/St. Marys neighborhood.

With support from a $25,000 Green Grocer grant, Micah's Market opened its doors at 15924 Fenkell Ave. in just four months and is already creating opportunities by hiring local teens and partnering with Detroit-based vendors.

The best part? Today's ribbon cutting happened on Jacqueline's birthday 🎉✂️🥬

Many of the concerns business owners have about compliance, don't come up until they're already in the middle of a project or day-to-day operations.

The Corridor Compliance Education Series gives business owners the opportunity to hear directly from City departments, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the processes and resources available to them.

Registration is open for sessions in Districts 3, 6, and 7. Stay tuned for updates on D4.

One thing to know: you do not have to live or operate in the district hosting the session to attend. While each event is led by that DBL, the City departments, resources, and information shared are relevant to business owners across Detroit.

If you have questions about permits, licensing, zoning, inspections, property maintenance, health requirements, or City resources, these sessions are an opportunity to hear directly from the people who handle them every day.
