HHD seeks to be a source of reliable, safe housing for women leaving Human Trafficking/exploitation.

The mission of Haven Homes of Detroit is to empower women to heal from the trauma of trafficking and exploitation by providing safe housing, creating supportive communities, removing barriers to resources, and equipping them with the skills they need to reclaim their lives and create a brighter future.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and for many survivors of trafficking, those two stories are the same story.

Sometimes trafficking starts with a stranger. Often it starts with someone she trusted. A boyfriend. A partner. Someone who said he loved her.

In Safe House Project's 2026 national report, violence or threats of harm showed up in 38% of cases where control tactics were documented, and a relationship that turns into exploitation was a frequent pattern in survivors' stories.

That is why healing at HHD starts with safety, and why it never stops there.

Three years of sobriety, and we are cheering loud today! 🎉

One of our residents just celebrated three years sober. That is more than 1,000 mornings of choosing it again. Meetings most days of the week. A sponsor who picks up when she calls. Hard days that never got the final word.

Sobriety support is woven into every phase of our program, but this milestone belongs to her. We just get to cheer from up close.

Happy three years. We are so proud of you. 🫶🏾

Shine for Hope, our very first 5K, was a success! 🪩✨

We were 50 strong. Runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters all showed up for safe housing and healing. 🫶🏾

The biggest shoutout to Andrea and Dan for organizing this event. Their determination to do something is the reason this day happened at all. 🙌🏽

And a huge thank you to Casey’s of Walled Lake for co-hosting and giving us amazing food and a beautiful space to gather. 🤝

Some weeks we're so busy doing the work that we don't have time to post about it.

Sitting here on a quiet Saturday morning (finally!) with a full heart: the work that happens every day can be hard and heavy, but it also carries joy and special moments of care to make sure each resident knows she is worthy of love and care.

What an honor to have a front row seat to this work.

September is National Recovery Month.

At Haven Homes of Detroit, survivors of trafficking are often navigating recovery too, a consequence of what was done to them, not a separate story. According to Polaris Project, inducing or exploiting substance abuse is a top method traffickers used to control s*x trafficking victims. That's why sobriety support isn't separate from our program. It's built into every phase of healing here.

Research shows that community and connection are powerful predictors of successful recovery. We believe that wholeheartedly at HHD, where community is woven into everything we do.

We know that human connection rewires the brain for resilience, hope, and sustainable sobriety. It's why we focus on community both within the program and beyond it, connecting women to employment services, faith communities, and other nonprofit groups to create a coordinated network built on relationships, belonging, meaning, and purpose.

When housing, peer support, employment services, and support groups function as one network, lasting recovery becomes possible for more people.

We're grateful for and inspired by everyone who chooses recovery every single day.

First Merchants shows up in more ways than one.

This year alone: a gala sponsorship. A new grant. And the reason our ladies show up every week for Ms. Tonja's financial literacy course, learning to budget, save, and rebuild credit as part of their healing.

That kind of partnership isn't an accident. It's shared ground.

Last call for a guaranteed shirt! ✨

Registration for our first ever Shine for Hope 5K closes tomorrow, September 21, and that's your cutoff to guarantee your race shirt size.

Sunday, October 4th, Walled Lake, hosted by our friends at Casey's Irish Pub. Kids in tow, dogs on leashes, friends cheering you toward the finish line (or just a really good walk). Sparkles and all things shiny not required, but highly encouraged.

$30 gets you a race shirt, bib, gift bag, and brunch at Casey's after you cross the finish line, plus raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle on-site.

It was a great day at the Standing Together Against Trafficking Conference in Ann Arbor. It’s always a good pause to spend a day away from our homes yo step back and connect with the larger anti-trafficking work happening across Michigan.

We were honored to be in the room with our staff, survivors, and survivors who are now staff themselves (and supporting board work).

Grateful for this work. Grateful for these people. 🫶🏾
