Across the country, African American Muslim communities are gathering, learning, worshipping, serving, building, and creating—and MANA wants more people to know what is happening.

Is your masjid, organization, community group, or local initiative planning an upcoming event? Tell us about it!

We welcome announcements for community-serving events, including:

• Islamic lectures and spiritual gatherings
• Educational programs and workshops
• Conferences, retreats, and community conversations
• Financial literacy and economic-development programs
• Health and wellness events
• Historical, cultural, and artistic programs
• Youth, family, and marriage programs
• Community-service projects and charitable initiatives
• Fundraisers supporting masjids and community causes
• Other events that connect, inform, strengthen, and uplift our community

Selected events may be shared through MANA’s newsletter, website, social-media platforms, and other communications channels.

To submit an event, please send:

• The event flyer
• Event title, date, time, and location
• A brief description of the event
• The sponsoring organization or organizer
• Registration or information link
• A contact name and email address

Events must be relevant and beneficial to the African American Muslim community and open to the public or a meaningful segment of the community. MANA does not promote private celebrations, personal gatherings, individual sales, or events whose primary purpose is promoting a person, business, product, or service.

All submissions are subject to review. Promotion is not guaranteed and will depend upon the event’s community relevance, the completeness and timeliness of the information provided, and available space in MANA’s communications channels.

*Attention Writers: A Call for Submissions*

As salaamu alaikum!

What story, reflection, insight, or creative expression has been waiting within you to be shared?

MANA welcomes original submissions for our blog and newsletter. We are seeking thoughtful work that informs, inspires, uplifts, and reflects the experiences, wisdom, creativity, concerns, and accomplishments of the African American Muslim community.

*Submissions may include:*

• Personal stories and reflections
• Articles and essays
• Community news and initiatives
• Islamic insights and perspectives
• Interviews and historical pieces
• Poetry and other original written expressions

**Submission Lengths**

• Standard articles and essays: 750–1,000 words
• Feature or in-depth submissions: 1,200–1,500 words
• Poetry: Up to three poems per submission

Please include:

• A brief biography of up to 125 words
• A clear, high-resolution photograph of yourself
• Sources or citations for quotations, statistics, and historical information
• Photo, if any, to use within the article
• ⁠Photo credits and written permission for any images you did not create or photograph yourself

**Publication Priorities**

**1. Original, unpublished work**

Priority consideration will be given to original submissions that have not previously been published in print or online. If accepted, these works may be published in full on the MANA blog (www.manajustice.org/blog) and featured in the MANA newsletter.

**2. Recently published work**

MANA will also consider relevant articles published by another source within the past six months. When selected, MANA will provide a brief introduction or excerpt and direct readers to the original publication through a link. Previously published articles will not be reproduced in full on MANA’s platforms without written permission from the copyright holder.

Please include the original article link, publication name, author’s name, and publication date when submitting or recommending previously published work.

Original submissions selected for publication may be edited for clarity, length, grammar, and alignment with MANA’s mission and communications standards.

Event: Detroit unveils Imam Abdullah El-Amin Way

August 29th

Imam Abdullah El-Amin gave decades of his life to Detroit, mentoring young leaders, strengthening neighborhoods, and living out his faith through service every single day. His example still calls us forward. And one of the best ways we can answer that call right now? Show up and serve alongside us as we prepare to honor him.

On August 29, 2026, the City of Detroit will officially unveil Imam Abdullah El-Amin Way at the corner of Woodrow Wilson and Davison, and we need your hands to help make it happen. From setting up seating and welcoming guests to keeping the program running smoothly, everyone has a role. This is a historic moment, and the best way to be part of it is to serve. Just like he did.

We want Detroit to show out for this one, and we mean that for real. If you're able, sign up to volunteer.

Hafas Quran Society is doing just that - and more. They're a community dedicated to helping women - especially black Muslim women seeking to deepen their relationship with the Book of Allah via shared learning and sisterhood.

We often unknowingly pass by the ayat, signs in the horizons and in ourselves. These are opportunities to reflect and recognize the One they’re pointing back to. All things unfold into evidence, proofs, signs, ayat of Allah, in creation.
