Kobie Morgan had the trophy case.

State championships. A college basketball scholarship. Scouting jobs with the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls. A law degree and an MBA in progress.

And he was miserable.

He gave his life to Jesus at nine. Nobody discipled him until he was 24.

Today Kobie and his wife Melissa pastor Thrive Church in New Jersey, built on a conviction he learned the hard way: the church can't stop at the altar call.

In this conversation from the Annual Assembly, Dale Sisam talks with Kobie about achievement vs. fulfillment, planting a church with no mother church behind you, and why no pastor should do ministry alone.

Inspiration won't develop a leader. A plan will.

The difference between inspiration and intentional fulfillment is having a plan.

Get the plan in place. God will bring the people.

You can show up on Sunday and not be okay.

Leah kept leading worship while her daughter was going through a medical crisis. She had to get okay with crying in front of people and telling them she was angry with God.

Her relationship with Him got deeper because she was honest.

It has six parts:

Interviews = learning from everyone on your team
Ministry development = hands-on experience in new areas
Spiritual development = Sabbath, evangelism, generosity, Bible study, discipleship
Stretch assignments = growth past where they are now
Theological study = grounding in what your church believes
Custom assignments = your own goals, check-ins and deadlines

It works for a 3-month summer internship or a full year.
